Just bought a car!

1234ABC, 27 December, 2011 at 20:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

A bit self indulgent, but then, it is that time of year! H and I were planning on doing it soon, but didn't actually mean to do it today. But we'll be picking up our new(ish) car on Thursday. Nice way to start the new year! And not to mention that we got a GREAT deal on it too! Smiley smile

Our old car, we've had for 2 and a half years, and it's done enough miles to drive round the world twice (nearly 3 times)

It's a Fiat Punto Grande. We have a wee 05 Punto Active which has been an amazing wee car, but we need something a bit bigger.

I know what you mean. our car had about 22k miles on the clock when we got him. He's now got 71k....he's been well used in the 2 and a half years we've had him. But he'll be 7 years old next year and with his mileage, it's really only a matter of time before he starts to breakdown, and we can't afford to have that happen.

We also timed it well with the Arnold Clark Real Sale on! got about £1300 off the original price!

Oooh lovely. I'm working on H, trying to persuade him to let me get a new shiny car but I'm not having much success!

It was hard work to get H to realise that we need a new one. He's very attached to our current car as it was our first, but we need reliability, especially if we're going to be driving all over the countryside this year. I can recommend going at the end of the month for a car, sales people are usually so determined to get another sale through before the end of the month that they bend over backwards!

    Oooh nice one!?

I really want a new car ever since OH put a massive dent in my driver door which will cost £700 to fix as it needs a new door apparantly. The problem is my payments finish in June/July and then it will be all mine. It's only 4 years old with 27000 miles so I can't really justify getting rid when I'll be payment free soon and saving for a wedding. After the wedding though, a new one will be mine!!

That's unfortunate about your Door. H burst the passenger headlamp casing and warped the bumper 15 days after we got it. £144 to get a new headlamp as they don't sell the plastic casing. But you'll be able to use your car to part exchange for a new car too! That's what we did as we own our car.

Yeah that's what we're planning on doing. The showroom have given us a very good offer for it on a part-ex but we will have to wait until after wedding as the new car I want will cost us a fair amout more each month and we could do with having the two years with no payments at all!

Our wee car - goofy the golf, is a 'V' reg, yes thats nearly 12 years old and has done 145,000 miles! We got it 5 years ago with 75,000 miles and it went through an MOT in October for £180. Cant complain!

My friends car has to be just as old, if not older than that and still goes fine too, but apart from his age and the mileage on him. We need a bigger car. not to mention that it's cheaper to insure than our current car and has a better mpg too, which given the cost of fuel, was a major part in our choosing to upgrade!

And our MOT only cost us £50 on our old car (and is free for the next 2 years with this next car!)

We are planning on changing ours after the wedding to something that cheap to run with a low road tax etc. Well that my plan H2b is plans for something that looks good and costs a fortune to keep!
