The best way to start is for you and your h2b to write a list of your own ideas, i.e. colours, trends, formality, time of year. Then a separate list of favoured venues and suppliers (if you have any). When you have a date in mind you will want to book your venues first as these tend to book up quite far in advance (for weekend days approx 1.5 - 2 years in advance). Then you will need to start thinking about photographers, florists, entertainment and also your gown, as it takes an average of 6 months for a dress to come back when ordered and it may take you a while to find THE ONE.

Hi and welcome. Firstly, as the others have already said, you need a realistic budget (you need to know whether you are funding this yourself, or having some kind donations from family). Once you have a figure in mind you need to save your ass off! Then think about dates, summer or winter would be a good start, and a year. Church, hotel, registry office, back garden, beach, theme park, elvis... you need a venue and a place to get married. Once the boring hard stuff is out the way you can start thinking about dresses and colour schemes. Have fun!

Thankyou to everyones suggestions you have all been so helpful!!! My engagement was wonderful!! I had absolutely no idea!!! We went on holiday to centre parcs in Sherwwod Forest where i have been going for years on man wonderful holidays. On the last full day of our holiday we went for a walk on the nature trail and to my suprise my gorgeous fiancee got down on one knee and asked me in the most romantic way!!! My ring is a beautiful princess cut diamond on a white gold band!! I feel like the luckiest woman in the whole world and cant wait for my big day!!!?

Hello & Congratualtions! ?

We started to talk about dates, D wanted May (for some unknown reason). Then we had an idea of venue we wanted to so we called to find out hoe much it was, if it had minimum spends/numbers etc and then made a budget based on how much we felt comfortable paying for each thing. We did add a little more to each than we thought to try and be realistic. We also added a £1,000 contingency on the budget. In the end, we looked at the bottom figure and adapted until we were comfortable paying that figure ourselves.

Since then we've had a few little offers of help and so far, everything has come in under budget so we're saving all the time. We've also decided that just becuase we save money, doesn't mean we can add something new onto the budget. We're saving everything and it will go into the honeymoon pot ?

Hello I am new to Hitched - this is only my third post. We've been engaged just over four weeks - got engaged in Central Park (he's getting a lot of credit for that one!). I am very excited - we have been together for five and a half years so it's so nice to be engaged ?
