Leaving dogs while at work

loves-young-dream, 6 December, 2013 at 13:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I have just got a new job and I can't go home at lunchtime now to let my dog out. I have been thinking of other ways to get around this, dog flap, dog walkers etc? What does everyone else do, do you have any ideas? Maybe even an extension with dog flap on as I worry about burglars if it's a dog flap to the house?

thanks!

    Mine is alone. He's fine.

    Depends on the dog though.

OH leaves for work at 4:30 am, I take dog out for 30/45 mins running at 5:30 and leave for work myself at 7:10 then he's alone (with the cat) until midday when OH gets back.

If OH wasn't able to do this, I'd have to employ a dog walker or send him to doggy day care - he couldn't handle 7 - 5pm alone with out a loo break!

We had a dog walker 4 days a week, but every Wednesday it was a toss up as to whether she was alone, or I took her to work with me. If she was alone all day she was fine, but she would get distressed at being alone so long. She would sleep all morning, then wake up and wonder why she was still alone. It wasn't a toileting issue, it was separation anxiety, but a lot of dogs are fine being left all day. If you're not sure your dog could handle it, a dog walker is a great idea.

Our 3 dogs are fine all day, it's quite amusing coming home and wondering what they've been up to all day. The cushions from the sofa were all over the floor today and the door mat had moved, a bit of rumpus I think. We have a dog walker if we're away for more than 10 hours though.

Our dog is left for roughly 6 hours 4 days a week.

My mum will often pop and walk her, but I know she's fine without. Obviously I can't be certain, but I think she just sleeps or sits on the windowsils watching the world go by (we live on quite a busy road so she's well entertained).

She has been left for up to 9hours when OH use to work different hours, I wasn't particularly happy about this.

Even though oh is home all day- my dog goes out for a walk at 6am every morning and then doesn't have another walk till I get home after 6- but I put a puppy pad down in the bathroom and she pees on that.. she has a crazy half n hour or so by running up and down the stairs or usually sleeps on the couch all day.

Ours used to get left all day for about 9 hours but OH has a new job so she's no longer alone for anywhere near that time. Shes very independent and doesn't suffer with attachment issues though and its how shes been used to her whole life. Our neighbours have never complained about any noise in the day from her she always looks like shes been asleep when we walk in. We walked her morning and evening when this was the situation though. I dont know how getting used to H being home will affect her if it goes back to how it was.
