*** LeedsBride's Wedding Report ** 28/09/12 ***

LeedsBride, 7 October, 2012 at 10:50 Posted on Planning 0 12

I thought I would start this early as I know a few people are looking forward to it, and I'll add to it a bit at at time! ? Thank you to all you lovely hitchers who have been a great inspiration and support, especially during my last minute panic about the hair and makeup lady!

Background:
I first met my OH when we started university in Leeds 11 years ago, it was the beginning of the course and I remember seeing him in a few lectures and thinking he was pretty cute! so when they changed our timetable and I wasn't sure where to go, I saw him in the university shop and asked him where we need to go, and soon became best friends. A few months later we realised we liked each other as more than just friends, and we've been inseperable since! We moved in together in 2005 and since then we've been back and forth down to Kent a few times a year to visit his family (as thats where he's originally from). Last year on the royal wedding day we were in Kent visiting family, and in the evening when were were on our own, it had gotten a bit chilly so we had the fire on, and he then asks me if I want to get married! I thought he was joking at first, as we'd been together over 10 years at that point and not really been bothered about it, but he said he'd been thinking about it for months, and after I made sure he was serious, I said yes!

The few days before:
As the wedding was on the Friday, my last day of work was on the Monday. I work in a small team of 4 people plus my boss who are all lovely, and we went out for a team lunch (although we called it a wedding lunch!) and they gave me a lovely card and everyone had signed it along with loads of other teams as well from our corridor at work.

I was getting really stressed out on the Tuesday and Wednesday, as I had loads of stuff to remember, as well as packing for the honeymoon, as we'd be going straight from our hotel the day after the wedding. I did a bit of shopping for some finishing touches, and boxed everything up to go to the hotel on the Thursday and was feeling a bit more sane.

Day before (Thursday 27th September)
I had an appointment at 10am to get a de-stressing massage and my nails doing, which was lovely, but I had a last minute panic confirming my hair and makeup lady as she hadn't got back to me, but she did get back to me in the afternoon, which I was soooo relieved about! (thank you to the hitchers who kept me calm!). As me and my mum were staying at the hotel the night before, we picked her up at about 4pm and took her along with everything for the wedding to the hotel. When we got there the staff had already set the tables out for the breakfast and it just needed my decorations. They said they would do it but me and my mum decided to do it instead, as I had put so much work into planning it, I wanted to be the one to set it all up exactly how I wanted it! Here's the room all set up:

I'd named the tables after family names from my husbands favourite tv show/book, Game of Thrones! we both really enjoy watching it so I thought it would be something different and to put our personal touch to the day.

To be continued....

When we'd finished setting out the tables, I felt much more relaxed and not nervous at all. We had dinner and saw my OH's mum, dad and uncle who had travelled up from Kent that day. I was sharing a room with my mum, so after dinner we just relaxed in our room and made sure everything was ready for the next day- hanging dresses and my veil out, and trying to iron the bridesmaids pashminas with a dodgy hotel iron.

The day of the wedding (Friday 28th September)
I set my alarm and got up at about 7am as I wanted some time to relax for a bit and get sorted before my hair and makeup lady was due to arrive. I felt pretty relaxed still and looking forward to getting married. I also read my good luck thread which was lovely! (thank you!). The hair and makeup lady (Jo) arrived at 08:30am sharp (like she said she would), and got to work straight away, doing my mums hair first, then mine, and then both our makeup. Before I knew it, it was 10am and the photographer had arrived and was happily snapping away.

My jewellery - necklace and earrings by our very own Lynseys Designs! which complimented beautifully the bracelets that my grandma made.

Flowers - all my flowers are foam but not even the photographer realised they weren't real until I told him.

    Shoes:

At 10:30am one of my bridesmaids (my SIL) had arrived for her hair and makeup doing. My other bridesmaid wanted to do her own hair and makeup (she has very short hair) and said she would be arriving at 11:30 to 12. It was all very chilled out and we just sat and chatted whilst the photographer was taking pictures. Once all the hair and makeup was done, and my veil was on, Jo left us at about 11:30. The ceremony wasn't until 1pm so I thought I'd wait till about 12:30 to get my dress on, it is a zip up (which looks like buttons) so would be quick to get on.

Meanwhile downstairs, the ceremony room as all set up and ready for guests.

My cupcakes had arrived, and my toppers were sitting proudly on top!

By the time my mum and my SIL had got dressed, it was about 12:30 and my other bridesmaid still had not arrived. I got a text and voicemail from her soon after saying she was on her way, and she had some trouble at the hair dressers. I decided I'd better get dressed myself as time was ticking away, and once I was dressed we had some more pics taken.

My bridesmaid arrived at about 12:45 and I was helping her put the straps onto her dress! she had a nightmare morning, as her hairdresser was late, and the machine to dry her nails had stopped working, so she was in a bit of a panic. It was a shame really as I would've liked to have spent a bit of time with her in the morning chilling out.

Time for a quick portrait before my dad arrived to my room

My dad was a bit emotional and was welling up when he saw me, which nearly set me off!

Tears under control and I was ready to go!

The bridesmaid who was late earlier had another last minute rush as she hadn't brought a printout of the reading she was doing for us, luckily I had them both printed out so she had to run back up to the hotel room to get it!. After a quick word with the registrar, I heard my entrance music playing and my bridesmaids went in one at a time, then it was my turn. I still didn't feel nervous at all, I just wanted to see my OH and all our families that had gathered. There was a nod from the hotel wedding coordinator and it was time to go.

The ceremony was lovely, and after chucking it down with rain all morning, the sun came out just as we'd finished our vows.

We went to get some more pictures taken, which was lots of fun ?

    And my favourite pictures:

We went in for our meal, and none of my family are keen public speakers, so there was no best mans speech (as it was my brother), and my dad gave a short speech but was stuggling to find the words to say, bless him, but it was lovely and I was so proud he made the effort. My new husband gave a great speech, and as there was no best man speech to embarrass him, he decided to embarrass himself! telling various stories of the trouble he previously got himself into, and he also said what a wonderful job I'd done with everything, and the things that I had made myself, which did make me shed a tear as it was so sweet

The food was amazing and before I knew it, it was time to go outside again for more pictures while the hotel staff prepared the venue for the evening reception.

Time for the first dance, which was Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are.

Our photographers said their goodbyes and more evening guests arrived. We had a lovely time the rest of the evening just mingling with friends and family, and as there weren't too many people, we had time to see everyone.

Gradually as the evening ticked away, people started to say their goodbyes, and the evening do finished at about midnight. We then went up to our penthouse suite and opened all of our wedding cards, and it was lovely to read them all.
