light in the box ... *fingers crossed*

Elixia, 28 September, 2012 at 17:28 Posted on Planning 0 42

Oooook,

I did the one thing that I NEVER normally do ... impulse buy. I bought a wedding dress from LITB .... THEN saw all the less than nice reviews. Well, I'm trying to stay on the postive side here and hope for the best. If its to big, i can altered it, if its too small my mum can put a lace up panel in the back, if its worse .... there always emotional blackmail (and a pile of favours he's stacked up!) on my dad for wedding dress B i've seen in America, and then theres the monsoon collection i like the look of for plan C.

Plus i have 18 months, so i dont have any last mintue gitters making me unhinged with stress so if its worse case scenerio i wont snap!

To distract myself I'll making other plans for the wedding, getting ideas togther, making a pinterest board aaaaaand i found an awesome wedding fayre in birmingham with a twist. its for geeks! I'll make a different post for my ideas if nessary since i wont some of them secret from my partner and friends but i have tell someone or i'll burst!

Now i have that off my chest, gonna browse the wieght loss forum, yeah i know 18 months is a long time to keep wieght off but I'm getting fed up of my water retension in general! plus getting into good habits dietary wise is always a good idea.

Well I'm bracing for the coming storm and hoping the weather man is wrong!

    Think positive, some people have had good experiences from there. What dress did you go for?

    I haven't bought any clothes from there, but got some stuff for our favours, and was very impressed, did have to pay extra for import tax to the courier though

    Its this dress:

    http://www.lightinthebox.com/A-line-Off-the-shoulder-Chapel-Train-Satin-Luxury-Wedding-Dress--WGY0547-_p106040.html?utm_campaign=cartcross

    I chose the colour to be lavender, and also i'm looking for jewellery to make it Princess Zelda themed Smiley tongue so elven diadem and one of those twisted necklet thingie but i might have to get it custom made (get the triforce symbol in there! a celtic circle pattern might do the trick) I want it to be more classy looking, subtle and delicate. not sure about long silk gloves. might buy some costume one first to see if they work.

    For those of you who dont know who princess zelda is here a picture;

    http://www.zeldauniverse.net/images/games/tp/characters/zelda.png

    and yes, i'm a complete nerd ^^;

    Weeeeeeell,

    heres the genius of our plan! Me and my fiancee are big fantasy nerds. we would, if we could, go whole hog and go crazy with theming! suits of armour, crowns the works (found a wedding costume supplier in Corwen north wales, they do banquets for Ruthin castle). but his family is traditional and he doesnt want to alienate them which is fair enough.

    so instead were theming our favor, decor, flowers, jewellery etc etc. now, like i said we love lots of fantasy games/movies/book and such so were trying to incorporated all of them subtly. For instance, i can get a owl delivering the rings (Harry Potter), seen LOTR's wedding rings, little chests with golden chocolates for party favors, then on top of that I'm making my own bunting and tabards for decoration and on there I'll have symbols for the things we like (GOT Stark wolf, HP Lightening bolt, Skyrim symbol, triforce, and more importantly a d20 shape).

    Of course, i want it subtle. so i have to rein it in and not go nuts!! the venues (and civil ceremony location on site) is so clean and contempory it could work! its a set of refurnished barns in Staffordshire!

    fortunately my fiancee is a voice of reason, if i go overboard he'll give me 'that look' and put my feet on the ground!

    I've fallen in love with a LITB dress! I'm too scared to order though! The reviews on the site are fine, but then I'd expect nohing less...

    what are people's experiences with them? or what have people heard?

    Don't know what to do as this dress is EXACTLY what I want and I've not seen it anywhere else!

    I'll keep everyone posted, this is actually keeping me sane ^^; estimated shipping date is the 11th Oct (so i would guess delivery would be 18th)

    as for owl ringbearers ... the bestman is afraid of birds!!!! ROFL! Though he said he'd do it if he had a little training or guidance. But i have read of ceremonies where the bride or groom gets the owl and such so if its too for him we'll work around it. i wouldn't wanna paint him a corner.

    Hiyas,

    Just a quick note to say that I ordered a dress from litb on the 26th September, and it arrived a week or so ago, got custom measurements option for it, and I am overjoyed with it!

    Got to try it on last weekend (getting married 3rd November), and my mum, dad and sister all cried when they saw me in it as they said I looked so good!

    Whether it's because I did the custom measurement, or I was generally very lucky (I have seen some terrible reviews of the, as well, and was scared), but I honestly couldn't be happier with the overall quality of the material, the workmanship and the overall look, which is identical to the picture on their site.

    I hope all turns out well for you with your order, and hope your experience is as positive as mine!

    You've got 19 months to go until you get married - If you've fallen in love with a dress on there, I reckon with this much time on your hands you could take a punt on this. If something goes wrong you've got plenty of time to fix it x x x

    To the OP - good luck! I hope it all works out for you - and love the idea of the train in lavendar btw! I'm also one of the guys that thinks ring-bearing owls are awesome so go for it! Looking forward to seeing your wedding pics x x x x

    ^^^^

    THIS!

    My thoughts exactly! TBH i was never going to go to bridal shops, i don't have the budget to throw away £1000's. my wedding dress shopping consider of a trip to the trafford centre and going into debenams, bhs, monsoon, coast etc etc then i complained about the petrol cost to get there! ^^; I'm a scrooge. though my penny pinching way did make it possible for me and OH to buy our house.

    anyway, as for owlbearers, its on the cut list, if we have to cut them for a better live band, we'll have let them go Smiley sad

    (yup importing images didnt work, why?)

    its very well made i have to say! i was really worried after reading those reviews online but its wonderful! the detail is great, fits almost perfectly ... need a loose a little weight, no more than half a stone. one thing that puzzled me .... no charge on the door, fedex man just got me to sign and left ... gonna wait and see if i a invoice shows up but i thought you paid before they released the package?
