Long shot - what inspires you?

Clairy, 12 April, 2008 at 15:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

I have to give a 10 minute talk to a business group on Tuesday about inspiration. I'm not feeling very inspired, or inspirational at the moment. Any ideas? ?

*ahem* Possibly the greatest inspiration in my life is a Hitcher.... But that probably won't work.

Otherwise..... Byron, maybe. John Forbes Nash..... Vicktor Frankl... Robert Blair Mayne....

    Depends on the context really.

Dutty ass porn (that so should not be arse) would have been preferable. Although possibly not appropriate for my presentation ?

I've read a few biographies of successful people. Sometimes reading about what other people have done to overcome their difficulties is inspiring for me. (It makes me feel quite normal to have problems chucked my way, knowing that everyone else gets them too and still succeed.) One of my favourites is 'Losing My Virginity' by Richard Branson. Interesting and quite funny.

I also find children quite inspiring. They don't seem to worry too much about how they are going to do things, they mostly focus on what they want to do/be.

    Some films I find inspiring:-

'Alive' (True story about a plane crash in the Andes. A fight for survival, involves canibalism.)
'Shawshank Redemption' (Prison escape of an innocent man.)
'Forrest Gump' (Doesn't occur to him that he could fail, so he doesn't.)

Bravery in all forms inspire me. Selflessness in people. Can do attitudes. Hanging around other people who have those attitudes is good for me too as their attitudes are contagious and give me motivation and ideas.

No idea if any of that will help you but there you go. Hope it does.

Spite, malice and a petty desire to get one over on certain people mostly. Probably not good for your presentation.

? no, PL, but I can understand what you mean.

    Pen that's really helpful, thanks.

Why do people ask others to do presentations about really vague things <deep sigh>

It's a local parenting magazine. It's for the first birthday of a women's only business networking group, but I don't want it all to be about me, me, meee. And the BBC will be there [V]

I have a big fear I'll make an arse of myself

Really strong women (& I suppose strong people) in general inspire me.
People who have overcome adversity to succeed in even the simlest things.

My mother inspires me, she has had so many health knocks over the years and still is going and strong.
Sharon Osbourne - ok so she might have money and fame but she has also had a difficult time, difficult hubby, difficult relationship with her father, difficult children, cancer etc and yet she keeps on going.
Kylie Minogue - again she has money and fame but that can also magnify the focus that people have on your private life which means you have to try and work harder to keep your privacy and dignity etc.
My sister inspires me, she is a Neo-natal paediatrician and sees death and suffering every day. Listening to her talk about her work and the daily things that she sees breaks my heart.
My friend Carol inspires me - she has 2 children with special needs. Her son with Downs Syndrome is just coming back from Leukemia, her other son is Autistic and she copes and succeeds in whatever she tries to do.

so these mightn't be HUGE successes or hugely successful people but I am inspired to try and be a better person and count my blessings (for want of a better expression).

Look at the people in your life and the things that you do and see what inspires you there and then talk about it with love and enthusiasm.
    Hope your talk goes well.
    Odie xx

Perhaps you can get some ideas from finding out a bit about women business owners. Here's a page that leads to quotes made my women in business. You might find something useful in there.

I'm sure you'll be fine in the presentation. ? Lots of luck! ️?
