Losing weight on your own?

Roobarb, 26 September, 2008 at 17:33 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 11

Ie without a slimming club?

I have done WW in the past but when I am able to start considering going again (after Christmas, as I'm due to give birth in November and they don't take you till your baby is 6 weeks old) I doubt I'll be able to afford it as I'll be on maternity pay.

I have a lot to lose and was wondering how many people have managed to do it on their own without the support of a club or is it worth trying to find the money?

?

This place is an excellent support network in itself. A supportive partner always helps too.

I do WW on my own and have lost 3 stone (although I have gained few pounds due to holidays which I'm in the process of losing) I use this forum as my meeting. I have found it really easy to do. I guess you could give it a go to see if it works for you.

I bought some books off ebay which cost £20 and I am doing it at the same time as H, Mum and Dad. In 4 weeks I have loat 12lb and H, Mum and Dad have lost over 1 stone. It is definitely easier if you can find a supportive friend to do it with you.

? guys. I'll give it a go using this place for support. Mr R isn't too bad, but I think he underestimates how difficult it can be to plan healthy eating and exercise when you're stuck at home with child/ren a lot of the time and also after I had my first I had PND which made it all even harder for me, so of course am worried it'll happen this time. If I was at work I think I'd find it easier as quite a few of the women are dieting atm and all seem to support each other and go out walks at lunchtime etc but obviously I'm not going to be at work.

I'm going to try and focus on how great it'll be to go back to work after 9 months off being thin - well thinner anyway - maybe that'll give me the motivation I need!

Hi Roobard. I suffered with PND after giving birth and it took me a year before I could get myself together enough to think about losing weight! But now I've started, I wish I'd done it a long time ago as I think my weight problems probably exacerbated my PND!

I have lost 2 stone in the last 3 months. I've done this purely by calorie counting and doing lots of walking - which is so easy when you have a little one...! I'm now at a plateau and have about just over a stone left to lose but am finding it really difficult to shift so have joined slimming world.

However, I think if you are determined enough, you can do a diet without having to join a club. I personally found calorie counting the best, but you do have to be strict with yourself and I wrote down absolutely everything that passed my lips!

Hi Roobarb, I am also calorie counting as a way to ensure that I am eating less and moving more, I have also been noting down everything that has passed my lips and counting all the exercise that i have been doing. i recently found this website Food Focus it has really helped me as is like the weight loss resource online only its free.

it is working so far not as a diet but more as a way to check I am making the right food choices.

I'm calorie counting on my own and so far have lost half a stone in a month. I think it helps to have someone doing it with you as support (I have my sister doing it with me) and using websites like this for support too. I am also using foodfocus to record my daily food and exercise and would also reccomend it as it's completely free. Good luck!

? all. Will give that foodfocus website a look.

Hoping to get out and walk lots with the pram but not hopeful as (a) it'll be November and (b) as well as the baybeh I will also have a dawdling toddler who will want to stop and look at every stone/leaf he sees on the pavement so it will take me ages to even get to the bottom of the road ?

Hi there! I've just joined, and I'm hoping to lose about four stones before my wedding next July! I'm almost halfway there right now.

I have done WW four or five times in the past, and it only worked for me for a short time each time. I met with a dietician this time, and she told me she does not believe in the WW program for long term weight loss. She said the idea of having the points and being able to save them up for splurges does not fuel your body properly throughout the day.

I'm now on a plan that balances protein and carbs in my meals and snacks throughout the day, and it is working well. I am also not hungry! I think having a sensible eating plan is what is going to work best for long-term weight loss. I'm following a plan I found here! http://fatlossremedies.com/art-best-way-to-diet.htm

Good luck to you! Losing weight is so tough!

I have a 7 week old baby, and was at my pre-pregnancy weight 2 weeks ago. However, I was overweight before getting pregnant, and I really want to lose another 2 stone to reach a healthy BMI.

I am really encouraged to read that Slimme has lost a couple of stone by walking and calorie counting! I want to start running (and have been out once) but find that only having about 4.5 hours sleep a night is leaving me a bit too exhausted to find much motivation to run.

Roobarb - I'll be your diet partner in December if you like?

WJCS (I stole her idea ?). I followed the WW plan roughly as a guide to calorie/fat intake and increased my walking (I also do the WW Move More DVD at home as I'm too embrassed and poor to try group exercise). I lost 3 1/2 stone in the year up to my wedding, using this forum as my gorup, and posting my losses.

I have gained a few pounds since the wedding 10 weeks ago (well, OK half a stone) and now trying to get back into the swing of things. Had a crappy month as my Grandpa has just died but eating well whenever I can and still doing the walking.
