Make Up

Tracey86, 18 September, 2011 at 09:31 Posted on Planning 0 10

Morning Everyone

I'm confused about make up- please help!

I was originally sorted because the lady who was doing my eyebrow waxing also does wedding make up so she was going to do mine (and the bridesmaid and my Mum's) make up on the big day however, she has since let me down 3 times for my waxing appoinment and the last time she didn't even give me an excuse- just text to say "can't do your appointment- sorry".So- obviously I'm no longer using her and she will definately not be doing the wedding make up which I'm sad about because I knew her and up until recently, trusted her.

I asked my hairdresser (who is doing my wedding hair too) if she could recommend anybody and she has given me the phone number of somebody who is a friend but who is also a make up artist who she has worked with on many weddings apparently. Now I don't really understand what to do- I know I'm probably making a mountain out of mole hill but I can't just call this lady who I've never met and book her for the wedding without having never seen any of her work or anything but then I don't want my trial yet so I can't book her for that either.

How do you book a make up artist? I don't know if I'm making sense but I hope I am, what I mean is- how do you know that the make up artist is right for you without having a trial because you usually have your trial a few weeks/month before the wedding don't you?

Sorry for the waffle- I hope somebody can make sense of it!

When I booked mine it was on a recommendation from my photographer. He had worked with her on a number of weddings. I looked at her website, plus she has a facebook page and lots of videos on you tube. I really liked the look of the previous jobs she had done.

What area are you in? Perhaps its worth asking for recommendations from other hitchers or hibs?

    Hi,

Give the lady a ring and explain you have got her number from your hairdresser. Ask if she has a website so you can look at her portfolio or if she doesn't if she can email you some pictures of brides she has done.

You don't have to wait to have a trial a few weeks before your wedding you can have one as soon as you want too.

If you look at other makeup artists then look at their portfolio and see if you like what they do. Email them or talk to them. You will get a feel if you would feel comfortable with them doing your makeup and if you would trust them.

    Hope this helps

Try doing a google search in your area for people who do bridal makeup. A lot of salons/ beauty rooms have professional makeup artists and will have examples of their work on their websites along with prices which might help too

Thanks everyone, I have already googled and found a couple of others incase I don't think this lady that the hairdresser has recommended is right for me, it was just the idea of booking somebody without seeing what they can do that was worrying me because she doesn't have a website.

As you all quite rightly said though, I should just ask to see her portfolio or some pictures of brides she has previously made up.

I think whats throwing me is that she has no webpage or email address (that I know of) and I always make first contact via email- I hate making initial enquiries by phone but I guess I just need to bite the bullet. I'll do it this week.

    Thanks all

I cover Berkshire and have been a makeup artist for 12 years. I've worked on 100s of brides - many of them Hitchers! Jyliey
