We're going to Mexico for our honeymoon & trying to decide what kind of money to take & in what form!!

We've been told just to take cash but dont really want to as i dont feel its safe, but then they dont recommend taking US Dollar travellers cheques!

Any recommendations?

Not sure with regards to cash Vs traveller's cheques - but my friend just got back from Mexico and said DO NOT TAKE PESOS, whatever you do. They were advised to take Mexican Pesos by the travel agent. Nowhere would accept them and they had to change them back to dollars at a crappy rate. They were well pissed off by it.

Wow! Thanks for letting me know! I must admit we went to two different travel agents and both told us not to take dollar because its not accepted over there & to take only Pesos!!

Think i might just get some dollars & some US Dollar travellers cheques!

Thanks for letting me know! xx

It's so frustrating! It was the same when we went to Dominican Republic, we got much better value for money by taking US Dollars, but the TAs advised us to take Dominican Peso. Luckily, H2B had been there a few years previously so knew, you think they would check out their advice?

OT - not long now!!! ?

I've been to Mexico a few times and we always take US Dollars. I exchange to Peso if we out into town.

Take some small notes with you, $1 etc as we used this to tip the barman and waiters. You get extras if you do that.

We've got Peso and Dollars to take for our honeymoon.

It depends on what you want to do and what you where you want to spend.

Most resorts deal in USD but local dealers now are "meant" to only deal in Peso if the transaction is >$100 (I think). So we want to go on a local daytrip so will need Peso for that, and you should also tip in Peso, given that it's their home currency.

We'll spend USD on a photographer onsite and spa treatments on resort.

Either way, make sure you take enoug Peso for your exit tax as I don't believe this can be paid in USD - something like 660peso each I believe.

We've not long come back from our honeymoon to Mexico Smiley laugh Just wanted to say that it was absolutely amazing! When we booked it (through Thomson) they told us to change everything to Pesos as the country is trying to eradicate the dollar. However many places took both pesos and dollars so it didn't really matter. We changed our money to pesos, however when we ran out of money the cash machine at our hotel only deposited dollars, so we used both Smiley smile

We're off to Mexico in October and just wondering if you need to have any jabs?

    Thanks.

I think it may depend whereabouts you're going but when I looked it up and asked Thomson, they said jabs were optional. Its not a high risk area for diseases and the majority of which are blood born, so unless you're planning on having a blood transfusion, the risk is minimal. We didn't have any and no one we spoke to did either.

    Hi McSquirtle,

I am getting married next septrember and wanted to book Mexico for our honeymoon but everyone is saying that it is hurricane season which slightly puts us off but our hearts are set on 7 days in Mexico and 3 nights in Las Vega. Can you give me any advice seeing as you have been.

    Thanks
