Mexico Advise

Suzie&Karl, 26 February, 2010 at 16:34 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 12

Has anybody been to Mexico, or are staying there in the near future?

We are hoping to go for our honeymoon and i think its a definate that is where we are going. Hoping to stay at the Grand Sirienis Riviera Maya, thats our fave at the moment,

Does anybody know of any decent excursions there? As we dont want to do alot, but want to do a few things while we are there.

And also, how much spends do you reccomend? Bearing in mind its for 2 weeks, and all inclusive. This needs to be included in my budget you see so need to get an idea.

    Ello me again!!!

One of my favourite excursions whilst in Mexico was the Jungle Tour. There is a group of say 5 couples, and each couple gets to drive their own little speed boat. You all follow in a long line through the lagoons which is fantastic, and then you pitch up and go snorkeling. It was great fun.

Myself & OH will be going Mexico again for our Honeymoon and plan to do Xcaret, which is an Eco park. It has lovely caves which you can swimming through, quad bikes, and even zip lines through the jungle. Can't wait! Here's a linky

    https://www.xcaret.com/en/attractions/underground-rivers/

Also swimming with the dolphins is a must, such an amazing experience.

We didn't take much spending money with us the second time as we didn't do anything whilst on holiday. I think we took around £700.00 the first time. If you search for the excursions online you can get an idea of what the prices are.

Also I definatly reccommend lots of $1 notes. These are great for tips. If you tip a maid or waiter etc, you will be treated like royalty forever! The mexicans are such appreciative people, 50p goies a long way!

Thank you for the Advise ChellbeB2B6 My main concern about Mexico at the moment is the weather in January. I have heard mixed reviews about it I was thinking of taking about £500 but maybe will take a little bit, as I suppose I will just bring it home with me wont i. We aren’t really planning on doing a lot of things to be honest, but with it being a 2 week holiday, we didn’t want to be lying around for the whole 2 weeks, so though maybe 3 trips might be nice. Would also like to go into Cancun at some point to look around. Thanks Again xxx

    Hi

I'm going to Mexico in a few weeks - cant wait! Its not honeymoon related just for a holiday. The Xcaret park comes recommended and i'll second that - i've heard good things. There is always tours to do anywhere you go - jungle/waterfall ones, snorkelling trips and also from that region you can pop across on a ferry to the island Cozumel for the day and explore which we plan to do. Off that coast lies the second biggest reef in the world so there will be plenty of marine life - you could always do a scuba session!

We have got an all inclusive deal and I would recommend you do the same if you can - most tour operators offer this. Then you will know how much you are spending and also as its such as touristy area restaurants in the hotel will be pricey, local ones might not be, but you may have to travel a bit, plus u wont have to worry when ur out there how much ur spending/drinking!

    S xx

Cancun is a great shopping place. The markets are very interesting, but be prepared to be jumped on by everyone trying to sell you something. Always haggle as well, they are used to it. I bought a lovely silver bracelet for £20.00, we started the price war at £200.00 - and I'd walked away twice! LOL.

I would definatly take more money than you need. There are lots of places that will change it back for free now!

Myself & Hubby to be are planning to go Cancun for a 3 week honeymoon, as we love the place so much. I don't plan to do much on this trip.

We did Xcaret - absolutely fantastic day but it does take ALL day and you probably still won't see the whole of the park! We went to Chichen Itza as well which was nice but it's about 2.5 hours by coach from Riviera Maya. We just didn't want to go to Mexico and not see a Mayan Temple and the journey didn't seem as long as it was. We never had a nosey round Cancun and actually spoke to someone by the pool who said she hated Cancun but absolutely adored Playa del Carmen, which is only about 20 minutes from Riviera and has a nicer, more local vibe to it. We did an afternoon there and thought it was great.

As far as spends is concerned, can't really help I'm afraid - we went All Inclusive and over and above that spent about £350 on the excursions and maybe the same again on odd bits and pieces, souvenirs etc. As with everywhere, the hotel shops are really expensive. I reckoned prices were similar to here on most stuff (but I'm pants at that sort of thing!) Weather shouldn't be too bad - we went in December and it was lovely and warm and only rained for 20 minutes the whole fortnight.

Thanks for all your advise. We will be going All Inclusive, but maybe if we are out somewhere we could have a nice meal out.

Hopefully weather wise, its not really below 25 as a holiday for me is meant to be hot.

So seeing as a few of you have been to Mexico, can you advise where to stay? As I have said up to now our fave is Grand Sirienis in the Riviera Maya, but we are open to reccomendations as we have never been before. We are willing to pay up to £1300 each, maybe a little bit more. But are finding it hard to find somewhere that has the same stuff that the one we have picked up to now. Cheers

Cheers Have just had a look at it, and it looks fantastic!

I have had a look at the January 2011 prices and its only slightly over our budget (by about £20pp) so hopefully prices wont change much for 2012!

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach (booked through Thomson) and it was just amazing - even the basic suite was fabulous and the food and drink was fantastic (7 on site a la carte's with no need to pre-book and the biggest breakfast buffet I have ever seen!) It also had a lovely stretch of beach and tons of organised activities on resort if your tastes run that way. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and I would go back in a shot. We spoke to a lot of Americans there who had been to a lot of resorts on the Riviera and they all said Maroma was their favourite. It scores well on Trip Advisor as long as you ignore the first 3 months reviews - it's a fairly new resort and the first 3 months were apparently disastrous but there wasn't even a hint of that when we were there.

Thanks for that recommendation. I just looked on the website now and its over £2000 each, which would take it way over our budget, but It does look amazing Smiley smile x
