Mexico reccomendations please :)

sr3693, 13 May, 2011 at 13:54 Posted on Planning 0 45

Hey everyone,

Have just started looking at honeymoon destinations & prices and have decided on Mexico!! Smiley smile

I've seen quite a few people have been to/are going to Mexico and wandered if you had any recommendations?

We have a budget of £2500 we would like to stick too if possible. . . we are looking for a hotel in the riviera maya/cancun areas but not totally secluded as

we like to go out & about - all inclusive of course! Smiley smile

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Thanku Smiley smile

That is a very good price flo! For one week or two?

We are going to the Excellence in Playa Murjeres and it's at least double that for 11 nights.

ETA: Which I would urge you to avoid if you want to be able to walk about, we want to do very very little and it's kind of in the middle of no-where.

We're going to Excellence Riviera Cancun in October 5* all inclusive. What drew us to that hotel was because you don't have to book a reservation for any of the restaurants just turn up and also they had a grill/steak and pizza restaurant as my OH doesn't like anything spicy or interesting (in my opinion) we had to choose somewhere that catered for us both.

Ours is for 11 nights and is £3,200.

Were going to Grand Sirenis Resort & Spa in Riviera Maya - £2600.00 for the 2 of us for 14 nights. We did some haggling as well! Flights to Gatwick cost us £200 & our hotel @ Gatwick is £80.00. OH mum is giving us £500 spending money which should be plenty but we'll maybe take an extra £100 just in case. So all in all its coming in around £3500.00

Some reviews on trip advisor arnt great (i always read them b4 booking!) but they are generally from Americans so Im taking them to be more fussy than is lot lol

We know 2 couples who have been (one couple in October) and they all loved it, said the food was great, grounds beautiful & staff couldnt have been more helpful.

They do a couple meal on beach complete with moonlight massage so were going to do that a night, go to the Spa a day & also do Coco Bongo - the hotel goes every wed nite & as we arrive & leave on a wed we only have the one wed nite to do it!

    We booked through Thomas Cook.

A family friend of ours went to Coco Bongo's KBS - she said it was totally awesome.

Cramped, overcrowded, a health and safety nightmare, but so so worth putting up with that for the awesome time - they didn't get back till 5am! Despite being nearly 50! ?

I always always read TA too - it's the first thing I look at when someone makes a recommendation rather than the website.

Flo have you read the comments about your resort? If not - make sure you do. It seems a room request to a particular side of the resort would be a good idea if you've been upgraded to platinum.

We were supposed to go to the Moon Palace... Pure luxury. Unfortunately this was in 2005, the day Katrina Hit, so had to divert to Mauritius but I would definitely recommend the Moon Palace from all the reviews I got from people we were in Mauritius with who had to do the same thing as us! hehe

Snap. this is the hotel we are going to as well. When i read the reviews (after we boked) I started to panic, but like you said its only the americans having a moan. everyone else is saying its really nice. i really hope it is. we can only go for 7 nights as oh has a shift pattern where he only gets 10days off every 5 weeks, so have to get wedding and honeymoon into them 10days (he has managed to bag a few extra days tho)

I highly highly highly recommend going to the moon palace or one of the hotels in the chain. They are 5* luxury!! I went a few years ago and managed to get flights and a week at the hotel for £800 by booking it myself through their website and missing out the travel agent! The rooms have hot tubs and each hotel has 5+ restaurants and you can go to any of the their hotels to use their facilities when ever you want. I haven't seen another hotel in cancun that is affordable and compares to the moon palace resorts!!!

    Hiya

You've made a good choice on Mexico, we came back off our honeymoon from there last week and it was absoloutly fantastic!!

We stayed at the Iberostar Tucan in Playacar (Playa del carman) and we really couldnt fault the hotel one bit, it was beautiful. It was all inclusive 24/7 and the food was amazing, couldnt wish for better. You were a couple of minutes away from PDC however about an hour from Cancun.

We swam with the Dolphins which was fantastic!

Couldnt have wished for a better honeymoon! Good luck xx

Just wondered if you wouldn't mind telling me what this Isla was like? We are planning to go across to do the Dolphin swim?

I'm a tad worried as to how long the ferry is / how rough the sea is as OH doesn't travel by boat well.

    TIA

The isla was beautiful but very very busy and was hot as hell, absolutly no breeze on it so you need shade. We did a snorkling tour whilst at the island, it was fab, however i got stung by a jellyfish/fire coral (they were unsure which) - well at least i still have the scar!

The catermaran over to the island was good, open bar and stopped at a few swimming spots enroute, the sea was very calm near cancun beacuse the isla shelters it. We didn't swim with Dolphins on the isla as we have done that previously in the Dom Rep. If you are not staying in Cancun you can swim with Dolphins at Port Aventuras which is near Playa del Carmen, you wouldn't have to get a boat there.

Also you can rent golf carts on the isla, we didn't bother as we only had a couple of hours there. Just did a little shopping and chillin under the shade of a bar.

One thing i would recommend though is to sort your own trips out rather than through the rep as you will save over a third of the price, just visit the trip stalls in most shopping malls.
