Missing programmes the first time round

lizziemh, 12 August, 2009 at 07:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I've only just watched the earlier episodes of Spooks - the ones with Matthew MacFadyen in, and have become engrossed (especially the chip fryer episode if anybody knows it). !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody else miss a series the first time round only to catch it on DVD and be completely hooked?

I'm exactly the same at the moment with Battlestar Galactica. Didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago and now I am hooked and about to start series 3!

    I've also never seen Spooks.

I do this all the time. For some reason I get put off watching things that everyone raves about. It took me years to get around to watching Twin Peaks and then I loved it. Currently watching The Wire which I'd never even heard of before my h started watching it (although that has only just been shown on terrestrial TV here).

Oh yes, I do this too.

I think I started watching spooks after it had been on for about 4 series, and House after it had been on for about 3. Mr FtG are currently watching the first series of ANgel - how did we miss it? ?

On the plus side it means you get to watch shed loads of episodes back to back, and don't have to wait a week to find out what happens next. But then all of a sudden you run out of episodes, and have to wait 6 months before you get any more. I got totally addicted to House, I had to stop myself watching more than a couple of episodes a day, and when I ran out it felt like i had a massive hole in my life, which is exceedingly sad when it's just a TV show! ?

I never watched Spooks, but then found series 5 on Virgin TV Choice, and want to go back to the beginning and start properly and watch all the way through. Trying to find some good offers to buy the first few series on DVD.

I never saw West Wing when it was on TV, but since saw one episode and bought the whole 7 series box set and have been watching them pretty much continuously since!

I keep trying to not watch DVD series, and watch what's actually on TV, but struggle to find anything as good!

Yes! We did this with 24, House, X-files, Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing, Boston Legal, Spooks and CSI. We've just tried The Wire but didn't like it. We hardly ever watch TV, it's always boxsets of things ?

We did this with Lost and Prison Break. Never fancied them at all when the first came out, but were bored one weekend and we rented both of the first seasons box sets, and watched them both in a weekend. Been hooked ever since

That, to me, is the episode that set the tone for Spooks and let you know it was a little bit different to other shows! It must've made an impression because how many years ago was that now?

We currently have 4 series of The Wire to watch - have watched 2 episodes and just starting to get into it. The first episode was virtually unintelligible to me!

Oh me too - it sort of said "no-one is safe, not even the people you think are regulars". But i miss Tom Quinn. I loved Tom. He was so much better than Adam.

Sorry if this is a silly question but have you watched the first 3? You really need to as alot of the story line just won't make sense if you don't.

I have never seen Sex and the City before. I watched the film the other day and now I am itching to watch the series which luckily my mum has on dvd. Thing is, there is never any time to do this but as it is coming up to colder weather I will be scheduling some dvd and duvet days ?

Like some other people on here, we've only just discovered The West Wing. It is our little treat to watch an episode in bed before we go to sleep a couple of times a week).

We're nearing the end of series 4 so are beginning to wonder what to watch when we reach the end of the box set. We are going to try the wire, probably.

Go back to the beginning and start again!

I got masses more out of WW second time around, as I understood more of what they were talking about!

That's a good diea. I must admit there are long sections of WW that I watch and then say to H 'what was all that about?' and he just shrugs! ?

I think it would be interesting to go back and see how the characters have changed and aged.

I love CJ. She's my hero at the moment.
