Move More Challenge - July

R-A, 4 July, 2009 at 20:03 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 31

OK, if anyone wants to join in, just post here.

Not entirely sure how it'll work but it's just meant as a bit of a motivator for anyone trying to Move More.

My aim this week: 4x swim (2000m each), at least 4x 2.5m walk

So far I've done 1 2k swim ?

    ? I like this ?

    Since 1 July:
Wednesday: steady 7k run, 5k walk
    Thursday: Rest
    Friday: 6k tempo run
    Saturday: Pilates DVD at home

    New week started today, so
    Sunday: Steady 10k run

Goals for the week: probs 1 interval session at the gym, one Pilates class at the gym, one fun/fartlek 6k run, 1 middling 7-9k run. Maybe a walk too. And two rest days.

    D&D:

    Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 30-min tempo cross-trainer, arms, bum, core, stretch
    Wednesday: Quick-ish 7.8k run
    Thursday: Rest
    Friday: 7k run
    Saturday: Power pump class

I think I will try and get up in time for a body pump class at the gym tomorrow. My knee is a bit sore so Sunday's 10k run might have to be a 1-hour crosstrain - woe is me!

    W/C 6/7/09

M - nothing, twas our anniversary ? did 2.5k walk

    T - aim 2k swim, 2.5m walk. done: 1.7k swim (didn't get up early enough!), 2.5m walk

W - aim 2k swim, 2.5m walk. done: 1.6k swim (again, bit lazy out of bed), 2.5km walk

Th - aim 2k swim, 2.5m walk. done: 1.3k swim (you sensing a theme here? ?, 2.5km walk

F - aim 2k swim, 2.5 m walk. done: 1.7k swim (not my laziness this time, didn't get out work in time to do the full 2k as the Lido shuts at 8), 2.5km walk

    S & S - I'm working 8am-9pm so no time for any exercise, sadly.

I'm pleased I have done my 4x swims, although I'd have preferred todo a bit further, I'm still pretty chuffed. I've swum 6.3k in 3.2 hours and walked a total of 12.5miles,

Not having had a rest day means my muscles are really feeling it this evening though!

    I like this.

I'm moving house so will be doing 7 miles a day on bike instead of 5 as I do now. I like doing a long ride at the weekend, 10 miles or so with the husband, get him off the sofa for a bit.

I'm thinking of rejoining the gym as I'd like to go on my way home. Working/studying is 70hrs a week so not sure I can commit enough to make it worth actually joining on a monthly-fee type thing. Might try and go once a week and see how I go.

    My aim this week

2 x outdoor exercise bootcamp style class

    3 x 2 mile runs

In a moment of madness I have just signed up for a 10k charity run so I best get training for that!

So far this week I have done 1 x bootcamp style class and 1 x 2 mile run.

I cycled to work every day this past week, and did 13 miles (Swindon half marathon route, but on me bike) yesterday as I was on annual leave.

Might do another long ride tomorrow. Will give the knees a rest today; they're not big on exercise.

    Goals for w/c 11 July

Knee is a bit sore so I need to turn down the running this week.

Tomorrow I need to do the equivalent of a 10k, so will either go for a long walk or do an hour on the cross-trainer. Then four more workouts for the week: probably one run, one power pump class, one cross-trainer sesh and one other class, pilates or something.

W/c 12 July not looking great so far ?

    Sunday: rest
Monday: Intervals at gym on crosstrainer. Right knee still annoyingly knackered so tomorrow will be a rest too. Just going to try and fit in 5 workouts, however slow/easy they are.
    Tuesday: Rest
    Wednesday: Body conditioning class
    Thursday: 5k run
    Friday: 6k walk
Saturday: 16 minutes on the cross-trainer, body pump class.

Hurrah - that's another week down.

The average person does a mile every 2,000 steps apparently. I don't do it all in one go - I get off the tube a stop or two early both ways, always take the stairs and walk for 20-40 minutes each lunch time. There's a mile to walk to and from each BMF class and I've danced too so it all adds up.

WOW, I'm worn out just reading about all that training.

I jog 3-4 times per week and have just signed up to do the 10k at Heaton Park in September. I believe the couse is quite hilly so need to get cracking with the training.

Jogged the 10k last night, took me 62 minutes which I was really pleased with. Need to start shaving off those minutes now.

What kind of times do you guys do 10k in?

Fastest I've done is 55, so you're doing fantastically if you've only just started and are doing 62!

Thanks very much. I did the 10k Bupa Great Manchester run in May 2007, that took me 1hr 6 mins which i was disappointed with but it was just so hot on the day! I kinda stopped running afer that so have only got back into it again the last couple of months. I've mainly been doing between 3-4 miles so to run 10k in 62 mins I was dead chuffed! Got back into it because a friend has just took it up which got me going again. Running together spurs us both on, i'm just determined this time not to just stop again after the 10k in September. Have a bit of trouble with my left knee but other than that I love it!

    W/c 19 July

Running is such a struggle atm, my right knee is acting up terribly. It makes things harder as I need to plan so much better - I think I will do 6 days this week and keep the workouts a bit gentler.

    Sunday: 6k run
    Monday: 5.5k walk
Tuesday: About 4k walk I think, but basically a rest day
Wednesday: Gym - 6x5 minutes on stepper, arms, bum, core, stretch
    Thursday: Hard Pilates class
    Friday: 6k run
    Saturday: Body pump class

SophieM - Do you usually do training of some sort everyday? I did 10k again on Monday but it took longer this time - 65 mins. Doing it again later today so hopefully will do better. Got my t-shirt and number in the post today for Septembers 10k at Heaton Park so no backing out now!

I try to do some sort of exercise five or six days a week, but I certainly don't run every day - and you won't improve your 10k time by running 10k often! Have a google for training plans - basically you want to be doing a mixture of tempo runs, intervals and long slow runs.

I thought i'd do the 10k twice per week and a couple of shorter/faster runs on other days. I'll have a look at some training plans and go from there. Thanks.

Have just got back from walking holiday in Snowdonia. Sure I walked off a lot of calories (did Snowdon) but I also ate a looooot ?

Will aim to swim 2k tomorrow, though I'm a bit achey. I'll have to add the rest of the week once I get my brain in gear and work out which shifts I'm working.
