Musical Acts You Just Don't Get

Rizzo, 11 August, 2011 at 17:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 84

For me, the main one is The Beatles.

I appreciate what they did for British music, but I find their music boring and some of their lyrics quite poor.

IMO. I think the Beach Boys were more creative than the Beatles.

Love George Harrison though!

Always thought this about them but no one has ever agreed with me.

Never really got U2. I find their songs irritating.

I liked the RHCP until after they released BloodSugarSexMagic and then they stopped taking drgs and got all boring.

U2 are another group where I've listened to their music and can't see what all the fuss is about.

With Or Without you is good though...

I have to add Fergie too. I know she is part of BEP but I think her songs are ? enough for her to have a special mention.

    Coldplay are awful.

I'll give them Yellow and Trouble but Viva La Vida is crap and the bit where he sings high in the chorus is enough to make me violent.

Some might find it controversial, but I DO NOT like John Lennon, especially Imagine. OH finds this shocking, but to me he's a bit too political and preachy.

*Bows down and worships Mrs BtoB*

I don't like him either. Very hypocritical man, who was bordering on being cruel to Julian Lennnon.

Agree with the bands already mentioned, have never understood the appeal of Coldplay - it all sounds the same! Or U2......

Also don't like Manic Street Preachers for the same reason.

I have no respect for anyone who wears socks and sandals.

(I'm not sure if he ever did this, but he looks the sort)

Yeh sorry Gabs, another Oasis fan here too. Love wonderwall

Agree with the others you have all mentioned, particularly the Beatles but I think thats just because they weren't my 'era'. I'm sure in 25 years youngsters will say they don't get the Spice Girls or something, then there would be trouble Smiley tongue

Now I think I could almost like them if Noel had sung more, I think they (well Noel) is very talented, just don't like anything they have done.

Saying that, I did go to a wedding a few weeks ago at an amazing farmhouse in Surrey, which is also a recording studio (OMD, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam (Pearl jam!!!!) and Oasis had all recorded there - i felt slightly special being on the same premises.

Probably at least 95% of the current hit parade.

Without advertising hype, post production and technology, most of them would never have even become popular if it was left purely to their talent alone.

Oh, and any 'stars' from any of the tv talent shows - not an ounce of talent between them.

I lost interest in pretty much all 'chart music' in the mid 80's, about the time Stock Aitken and Waterman were producing everything.

Yeah, not a bad cover of the Wurzels song.

Wonderwall was an OK cover of the Mike Flowers song too.

Definitely the Beatles, OH agrees and we've 'banned' the DJ from playing any of their songs at our wedding. I'd also include John Lennon (solo) and Paul McCartney (Wings/Solo). I'm not entirely convinced The Beatles could actually sing in tune and lyrically the songs are dreadful.

Also add U2 - none of their songs 'grab me' but it might also be because I find Bono such a smug, hypocritical t**t.

I don't even know where to start! OK, almost anything in the charts, and anything remotely described as 'jazz'. And whiney nasal male voices (Guns n Roses, Rush)

I don't 'get' the William Shatner spoken word stuff, but it's mildly amusing.

And if I had to nominate one person to eliminate from the music scene forever and wipe from history it would be Adele (*shudder*).

    Eminem

Green Day (in fact all of those Amercian Punky style bands)

    Stereophonics

    Glee

    Libertines & Babyshambles

    Duffy (wtf?!?!)

I can't say I've NEVER liked Oasis because I used to love them when I was a teenager but more recently the sound of Liam or Noel Gallagher singing is like nails down a blackboard to me. Also I think you can overplay songs and that's part of the problem for me with Oasis, I just got sick to death of hearing them.

    Please tell me you're joking?

Queen (and Freddie Mercury in particular) are legends. One of my biggest regrets is that I was too young to see Freddie play live.

One of my biggest fears is that she will team up and one day and do a duet with James Blunt...

I would like to add James Blunt - he scares the bejesus out of me.
