A little warning…..grab a brew, this report is likely to be long! Have interspersed with lots of flashes! Hope you enjoy reading as much as I’ve enjoyed writing!
Week Before the Wedding
My last day at work (a primary school) on the Friday was a blur of Easter egg competitions, Easter Bonnet parades and other end of term fun/chaos. I’d broken the news to my class (7 and 8 year olds) on the Tuesday that I was getting married and would be back after Easter as Mrs A. While the girls (there’s only 9 of them) gave some impromptu cheering and clapping, the boys (all 18 of them) sat there with their mouths wide open and looked generally gob smacked. I had a few intrigued questions from the girls (“Miss, are you gonna actually buy a house with your boyfriend when you’re married?!”), I think they were mostly amazed that I had a life beyond the classroom….
Once work was done I had a full week to sort out final weddingy bits. We set to work finishing our name cards. Although they did take some doing I was pleased with the outcome. For every guest we had managed to get a picture of us with that guest. Where possible we went with a nostalgic choice.
I spent a lot of that week looking at weather forecasts. We had been well and truly spoilt in March so the coldness that ensued seemed more unfair than perhaps it would have done otherwise. I tried to put it to the back of my mind and not let it bother me, after all rain is supposedly good luck (A wet knot is a tighter knot ?).
I also took the chance while Mr A. was still at work to meet up with friends for a couple of “last suppers” with friends. Monday afternoon was spent with my teacher training pals in Wagamamas in Leeds, and Tuesday eve eating fish n chips in Wetherspoons in Scunthorpe. No last minute diet for me!
Saturday – Day before the Big One
After an early morning salon visit to get my nails done for the first time in my life (am now a convert to the joys of shellac) I packed my overnight bag and started gathering everything in our hallway. Said goodbye to Mr A, very weird saying goodbye and although I held it together I really missed him as soon as he left. My bridesmaid H then arrived to drive us through to the venue. Now we’ve had some pretty epic and memorable road trips in her green Peugeot, but I’d forgotten just how tiny it is! By the time we’d loaded all out stuff there was just about room for us to squeeze in! Whoops! Arriving at the venue was exciting; H had never seen it before and commented how beautiful it is. C my other bridesmaid arrived and we checked into our interconnecting rooms. I gave them a guided tour round the hotel and kept bumping into members of my family who were arriving from all over the country.
