Name change, a little weird....

Mrs Bass, 30 June, 2010 at 21:28 Posted on Planning 0 15

Ive decided to take my H2B's surname when we get married, so ive already had a little practice of my new signature (yes i did feel like a teenager scribbling on school books!) and now Im sat on the internet, with a couple of glasses of wine, and ive just requested a catalogue from a website, they asked for my title, first name and surname, so i typed it in.

Then i thought, "hmmm, i wonder what it is going to look like" so i typed I clicked Mrs and added my soon to be new surname,

Oh my, it looked SOOOOO weird! I know I have had my name for the last 27 years and its going to be weird , but it was uber weird!

A collegue of mine is getting married in November and she has already started to make reservations etc in her married name. i thought it was a bit strange doing it before she got married but im starting to think it might be a good idea in order to get used to it!!

how is everyone else coping with the name change, did you 'unofficially' change it before you got married?

It will be rather an odd feeling. I am going to wait until we are married before i start using it. It feels more special that way imo.

I'm not coping at all!! I'm really excited about getting married but changing my name scares me. Feels like I might lose a little part of me when I become Mrs Fogg (!!!!). I know that when the time comes tho, I'll be really excited so wont mind a bit!! It's prob just a wobble!!

It's really really weird when you change your name. i come from a small town where everybody knows me due to my old surname but now when i phone places they have no idea who i am, this has its good and bad points!

i've been married for 9 months now and my signature is still different everytime i write it!

I've just had to fill loads of forms in for my sons nursery. He starts 2 days after the wedding so I thought theres no point in filling the forms in in my maiden name cos when he starts I'll be Mrs N.

It was very weird signing my new name, I'm not sure I'll get used to it.

I did it on one or two things beforehand - like when we changed dentist. Otherwise I did it straight afterwards. Didn't find it that werid - I really enjoyed it - made it more real.

I have started practising my signiture too. The way i do mine normally is quite simple so the way i'll do this one is too.

It'll take a while to get used to, but i hate my maiden name so its fine lol

Signing my name wasn't a big problem for me (had practised a bit before hand) but what I've found very hard to adjust to is saying my name on the phone. Even now 7 months on I catch myself stuttering over my surname and nearly using my maiden name. You do get used to it although I still get a stupid grin on my face when phoning say the plumber and saying "Yes my husband will be there to let you in".

I've had a go at practising my signature and it just doesn't work, lol. At the moment the G flows nicely into the M but getting it to go into a C is proving impossible.

And at work i sign for alot of deliveries and everytime they ask for my surname i think it's not going to be for long. ?

I'm not sure how I feel about changing my name. I'm quite traditional and I want to be Mrs Hisname, but my surname is quite unusual and I feel like it's part of my identity ?

At least I'll never have to spell my surname again, his is VERY common ?

SNAP!!! When we first got engaged I REFUSED to change my surname. I has since come round to the idea of becoming Mrs Jones, but truely feel I will loose part of my true identify

I also have a unique (ish) surname and am marrying a Brown...

I do feel attached to my surname and everytime I write it now I feel quite sad, but I think thats natural!

It will be hard at work (being a solicitor) to change my name and clients getting used to it, but it will make things SO much easier when calling people so I dont have to spell my name everytime!

I havent practised signing my name yet as I heard it was bad luck (stupid I know) but I want to travel on my honeymoon as Mrs Brown so I need to remember when booking it to use that name - its going to be so wierd!
