i think uv started well by getting a time of year in mind. I would say get looking into venues now and then get a definate date set.

Hi welcome to hitched and congratulations on your engagement. You'll get plenty of help on here. I got married last May so any questions just fire away.

As the others have said get a budget in mind, approx guest list and then look at venues. Enjoy x

Congratulations and welcome to hitched. Hope you enjoy your planning. We are planning for march 2012 and have sorted budget, and are in the process of sorting venue for ceremony and reception (otherwise known as church and church hall hahahaha). cant wait to hear all about your planning?

    Welcome and congratulations.

The girls have said it all.. budget and venues/registrar are the first things, everything else comes afterwards..

The forum is brilliant here, loads of advice, help, recommendations and everyone is very honest.. love it.

    Hi and welcome to hitched.

As the others said budget is the first thing. There is no point looking at castles when you can realistically afford a hall. Then a rough number of guests that you'd invite so you know how big you need your venue to be. Then I would think season, winter or summer wedding? Then start on the venue hunt. Oh, and don't forget to join us on here to keep us informed how you get on.

    Ahh yes.. seasons.

go off season or off saturday and you will save lots of money.. We are getting married in Feb, because of our honeymoon choice and saved £5k off our day because it wasn't May-Sept

Hi and welcome as well as many congratulations on your marriage. Definitely sort out your budget then you can contact all the venues you like to see if they fit within your budget (as this generally is the vast majortiy of what the budget is spent on). Make a list of what is important to you on the day (of course your h2b) but aside from this - photography budget, DJ budget, rings, type of ceremony, dress as it adds up. Off peak and mid week weddings are generally good to fit within a budget. Hotels generally offer discounts for mid week (not Friday's as much now) or off season weddings. Some venues are also booked 2 years in advance! So never to early to look around.

    Happy planning T xxx
