New York honeymoon

Hoddy, 7 June, 2013 at 18:14 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 12

Any OM's been to New York for their honeymoon? Anyone planning on doing so? I'm getting all sorts of quotes so not sure how much to budget for it. If anyone can give me any advice it would be hugely appreciated!

My OH is from New york. Hes told me to tell you to average flights are about £400 -£500 for a decent hotel. In the decent/tourist areas you can pay on average £150 a night for a hotel. What time of year are you planning?

We're getting married in New York, we have just booked our flights & hotel we paid 1300pp for 10 days in Times Square hotel. We went in 2009 for 10 days aswell and took 1200 each for spends.

we used expedia as we find it quite good value for money.

I would agree with short_stuff. I've been to NYC twice over the last 5 years and each time we paid a premium for the hotel. I would agree that £150 a night is a good figure to base your budget on. From what I understand, the city can be quite stifling in August as well so best to spend a bit more and book somewhere with decent air con!

We found though, once we were there, everything we wanted to see and do was either really reasonably priced, or free even.

I love New York so am very jealous of your trip - enjoy!

I've been to New York in August and it is hot but was lovely having a picnic in Central Park! Also, lots of summer concerts, films being shown outside etc

Hi I'm not OM but have been to NY before, I went at the end of September and beginning of October and it was incredibly hot and sunny! Smiley smile

    Absolutely loved it.

Think it cost £600ish for the flight! x

How long are u wanting to go for ? Expedia is what we use, it may be cheaper if you choose a connecting flight instead of direct, we did connecting flights and it was so easy and straightforward as I was dreading it beforehand! What area are you wanting to stay in ? X

£2500 does seem a little steep.

Try local, independent travel agents too. They usually have some good deals. booking hotels directly will also get you better deals and maybe an upgrade if you mention you're newlyweds.

We found hotels were extortionate last time we looked. We ended up using Expedia secret hotels (or something like that), where you get a 4* hotel for a 3* price but you just don't know which hotel it is. You can specify area, but the areas are quite big. The first one we went to was perfectly located but the second one was a bit out of the way. Just a gamble we had to take really otherwise we could never have afforded it!

We've been to NYC twice, got engaged there in Decmber Smiley smile

We apparently went at one of the most expensive weekends of the year, we stayed in a budget hotel (think travel lodge) and it cost us £700 each, including flights, for 4 nights.

I wouldn't look at hotels in/near Times Square, it just isn't necessary.

Id be wary of private rentals, as think they're illegal (sorry Monkeyboobs), at least that's what I read on the Trip Advisor forum constantly. That's a good place to go and have a look at. They have New Yorkers giving out brilliant advice and it you go on with a date and budget in mind (in dollars) they will defiantly advice you where to stay, or avoid.
