Newbie and potentially a Landy Bride!?!

lauren700, 5 May, 2010 at 14:46 Posted on Planning 0 27

Hi all,

I'm new so be gentle! Having found my perfect dress I refuse to pay the crazy amount of money for something I'll wear for a day. I've been looking at Landy Bridal and at first they were very good at contact - however the past week I have had no reply from them - has anyone had any recent problems???

    Hello welcome to hitched...

Perhaps their poorly paid labourers and child workers have gone on strike!!

Sorry I'm not a big fan of Landy and other sweatshop dress makers. I'd rather have the real thing any day tbh

    Hiii!

I have some Landy experience, and feel a bit mixed... I ordered my BM dresses from there which were meant to look like this, in this exact shade:

    but arrived like this:

The thing is, it's still quite a nice dress and i do think it's well made, but it wasn't the colour I wanted - I don't know how clear the pics are, and the white trim on the bottom is quite long. But, on the upside, they were half the price and were custom made (but they did get one dress wrong measurement wise and it's too long!)

I guess it depends how fussy you are...I'm quite fussy! Though i've decided to stick with the dresses as it would be a waste not to, but I have to say if I could do it again I wouldn't. However, like every shop / company, some people have had amazing experiences with them, some I've heard sound really bad, so I can't say I've had a total nightmare. Like someone said, GeordieBarbie loved her wedding dress from them - think she just had a couple of alterations but sure she will tell you!

It's very tempting cos they're soooo much cheaper, but it is a bit of a gamble! Good luck!

p.s. they were always very good at returning my emails - usually same day - you could maybe check it's not a holiday in China?

Well now lamby arent you a genius!!! it was labour day 1 May till 3 May and so its likely they could still be off!!!

I think your dresses are lovely! did you get a swatch in advance? I have had my swatches already so aware of the colours I'm getting.

Hello! I am indeed a landy girl and do indeed ❤️ my dress.

I for one wouldn't pay the £1000 price tag my dress cost for 8 hours wear - over £100 an hour was riddiculous. I also personally think the cost of wedding dresses are marked up big time, a few girls on here have been stung by bridal shops going buist and the cost of their dress against the price they paid was very different. I do not think for one moment that the dress from the designer was not made in China or elsewhere...

Anyway - I had a great experience with Landy. Great communications (Lucy added me on MSN and we chatted about it's progress). My dress was made to measure but was a little big but nothing that couldn't be altereed. My seamstress (family friend) thought it was fabulously made and the material of a high quality. She was very impressed! I think she was a bit sceptical when I told her what I was doing.

One thing to not about colours - the colour on look different on different computer screens so what you see isn't always the correct colour. Best ask for a swatch.

Natty has recent;ly got hers and it was georgeous too (in fact I prefered the look of the real dress to the picture). Sometimes they're not absoloutely identical but the changes are not noticeible. I know Natty had a few hiccups with gettingt he dress but it arrived in the end.

    Good luck!!

Geordie - Thanks!! That has given me a bit more confidence. Do you have pictures of what you ordered and what you got? They dont have mine in the site and so I have sent them pictures for the quote.

Not getting married for ages but was thinking I should order it now so that at least I know and can start saving for a shop bought one if necessary!!!

Does Natty have pics too do you know?

Hi, no I didn't get a swatch, not much of a genius! I didn't even think of that to be honest, as I saw it as a bit of a cheap and cheerful option - I should have looked into that more then I probably wouldn't have been disappointed! It sounds like you've really done your homework and worst case scenario, as you say you can save for a shop bought one if it doesn't work out...but hopefully it will and you will save yourself a fortune!

    Hiya!

i got my dress from Landy, was a little bit worried come the end because they kept postponing the delivery date... but it did arrive in the end and is gorgeous, its excellent quality! Its about 2ft to long but maybe im just a short ass! They will do the length and size for you if you ask but i just had it in standard, whoops!
so my dress arrived and i loved it, and i have just fallen in love with another dress so im ordering that one too ?

Cant moan for the price 2 of their dresses are cheaper than half a price dress from a bridal shop! and as geordie said, i have no doubt the bridal shop companies have their dresses made in china!

The only thing i wil recomend is dont tell them when the date of your wedding is (If you havent already) Because they kept telling me that they are very busy and have wedding dresses to do for May/ June brides and im not until September so i can wait longer... It come eventually. just a few weeks longer than expected.

There are a few alterations to be made, i.e. top is too high on my boobs, dress is too big on waist and really long. Alterations are quoted between £85 - £150 but you dont mind paying that when you have the dress so cheap in the first place...

I ordered from asapbay (landy's ebay username- check it out, my dress worked out cheaper via their ebay shop than the LB website). I had to pay DHL over the phone before they delivered it, taxes etc. It was noted as a 'knitted dress' though ( think they do that to keep costs down for you). x

I had to pay VAT which was around £8. I got an invoice from DHL about a week or so after my dress arrived.
