NOTW

Will publish it's last ever edition on Sunday over the hacking scandal.

Is this an admission of guilt?!

Wow. That's a pretty big deal. Has to be an admission of guilt. Lots of advertisers have pulled their adverts though which can't have helped.

The only paper I have from my wedding day is a NOTW!

(Sorry to disappoint CB, I am a Sun and NOTW reader! ?)

    Yes.

Not that it will affect my life any. I haven't read a newspaper with a red top, ever. Very infra dig.

I very much doubt it's an admission of liability! I think it's a response to the public outcry and being done so as to mitigate any future punishment. This way the DPP can't revoke their registration as a newspaper. It prevents further clients and sponsors from pulling out.

I'd like to see people spend some time in prison for this but I suspect anyone who does will be fairly low level and will be rewarded financially. It disgusts me.

Wowsers. I half expected them to struggle to recover and maybe disappear within 18 months as a result but that's fast!

ETA: I was talking about this with friends last night and one reckoned that there's an awful lot of newspapers have done the same thing but just haven't been caught. I wonder if she's right.

Less advertising revenue and lower circulation = less profits.

I also suspect it'll be the best selling edition of the NOTW ever. It paves the way for the Sun to become more widely read and they can merge the headcount on the papers to make more savings.

It is rare something in the public domain riles me so much but this is just ridiculous.

Please no one buy the edition as a souvenir. Don't make RM richer.

Just seen that they've said all the proceeds from the last edition will go to good causes. Think I'd rather just put my 20p or whatever it is in a collection tin myself - I wouldn't like to think I'd contributed to an assertion that the number of papers sold means the public supports them.

NOTW sacrificed rather than the repulsive Rebeka-ka-kah Wade/Brooks.

They will simply rebrand and launch as a 'new paper' in a few months when they feel this has died down! I hope they don't think they'll get away with it that easily. Disgusting

It says a lot that Murdoch is prepared to sack all his staff and screw up their lives rather than put his own neck on the line! Sure 99.9% of their staff had nothing to do with it.

I am amazed how easy it was for them to hack into all these peoples phones..so easy that i bet thousands have had it done to them. I hear Mr Sheridons court case will no doubt be looked at again due to this as well.

I heard on Radio 2 earlier that they'd been pondering for a good number of years in changing it to the Sunday Sun, so this probably just made them bite the bullet and do it.

That awful Rebekah woman still keeps her job which I can't understand.

I think it's a ploy, they can cut lower level jobs save themselves money, bring in a new Sunday paper, and Brooks will be , distanced from the whole thing meaning people will forget about her and she will keep her job. (I am cynical and angry about the whole affair). RMs Media Empire is so vast the paper is a drop in the ocean! It's a well thought out public relations stunt as far as I can see.

I want to know just what hold Rebekah Brookes has over the Murdoch family that means she is being protected at the cost of 200 jobs.

Never bought the NOTW of The Sun, so doesn't bother me in the slightest that it is disappearing.

The scandal however does. Appalling behaviour. Makes me wonder about the secret conduct of other papers.

I saw a very small part of it CB - we were babysitting and S&BIL came home about 10 minutes in to it.
