OMG what a morning

Lynseys Designs, 6 December, 2010 at 13:57 Posted on Planning 0 18

I spent 2 and a half hours in the car this morning and didn't even make work and I travelled the whole distance of maybe 10 miles! The motorways are closed, the whole place is at a standsill and I'm just so thankful to me home. I was the last to be travelling into work so got caught in the start of the snow chaos and got told to turn around and go home which wasn't easy with all the roads nearly unpassable with snow but now my colleagues are stranded on motorways with no movement in the traffic and people are actually leaving their cars on outside lanes and walking it!

Snow doesn't ever bother me but for once I'm was so scared. One minute the roads were clear but busy with traffic and the next it was a blizzard and inches of snow and I'm not joking. I hope everyone is safe. x

    Agentblackcat I was the same.

TT I'm outside Glasgow in a little village. Think it's safe to say I'm now cut off from the main roads.

These are the roads nearby. The first one is the motorway I was on this morning for hours and the second one is right at my work where I didn't make it to!

Glad you're home safe! Just been watching it all on Sky news - fed up of it all now. Just want all the snow to go so we can get back to some normality and stop all this disruption!

It's still a nightmare. I can't get out the street and even if I did all the roads are blocked I need access to. Some of my colleagues were stuck in their cars for hours. Three of them left at 11am from work and it took them 6 hours, 8 hours and one poor girl was stuck for 13 hours to travel 6 miles!

I'd just double check everything on Friday because it could all change by then although personally I won't be going to Skye if you are driving because those roads are bad generally in winter never mind when we have had the worse snow in years. x

Hehe I didn't realise they would change. You can use this link to look in different areas at the Jam Cams - https://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/glasgowandwestscotland/roads/planned/. My current traffic update says

M74 South Lanarkshire - M74 partially blocked, queueing traffic and long delays in both directions between J5, A725 (Raith Interchange) and J6, A723 (Hamilton), because of a broken down lorries. Congestion to J8, A71 (Canderside).

I'm at Canderside so I'm not even going to bother. Work has said it's too dangerous to drive so they have been sensible about it all which is good.

I watched the news last night & thought of you girls up in Scotland. We get hardly any snow down here in the South, we seem to be sheltered by all the hills around us. We've got freezing fog which is treacherous, as it falls it is coating everything in Ice.I love the snow but the weather you have had is awful.

    Keep safe & warm.

Found this of Road Closures in Scotland:

    http://directgov.transportdirect.info/web2/LiveTravel/TravelNews.aspx?repeatingloop=Y#

According to one of the Girls in Scotland on Twitter her FIL works for the council & the ice is too thick on the M8 to grit so they are leaving it!! Absolutely mad!

Linsey, glad you made it home safely! I can hardly believe how we are getting away with it in the middle of the country! I had to travel to Maidenhead to photograph a wedding and was dreading it... The roads were as clear as if no snow had fallen!

    Hope everyone stays safe...

I made it to work today and we opened after 6 days off school - crazy never have I ever seen this amount of snow - everywhere you go there is mountains of snow which has been cleared from places I can't see it all melting quick!

Hi Lynsey, made it safe and sound to Skye, think someone was looking after me as there was nothing on the roads when we ventured up. Can't say the same for the way back as they were dodgy from Portree down to Glasgow again Smiley smile

Lynsey, I was exactly the same on sat. We were all driving at around 60mph and hit a wall of snow, the car in front of me slid and i either had to hit it or hit the railings. I hit the railings but not hurt thankfully! As i was sitting there shaking a 3 car pile up just missed me, Ive never been so scared in all my life. I kept thinking, please dont crash into me i get married in 5 days!!! Glad u r safe xxx

JLCB2B I'm glad your trip wasn't affected and that you made it back to Glasgow safely. Luckily we haven't been hit by the snow again.

kj82 OMG are you sure you are ok?
