Opinions please on a round top table??????

MrsRedman11611, 2 June, 2011 at 12:08 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hey everyone!

What are you thoughts on having a round top table??

Reason being our venue has a beautifull bay window area behind where we were originally having a long top table which would mean loosing that space, it has a chandelier above where the table will be and i will place the 8 people on the table in like a half moon shape so that no one is sat with there backs to anyone else.... Hope this makes sense....? ?

The rest of our tables are being set in a 'U' shape facing this top table so i think it will work ok but would be great too hear your opinions please...

Thanks Ladies! Smiley smile

My sister had round tables at her wedding, even the top table. It worked quite nicely as you spend most of the time nattering to those on your table. (Her wedding was quirky though due to complicated family arguments, etc, so she and H would move to a different table for each course, which kepy everyone happy).

I had one. Couldn't stand the idea of having everyone staring at me and the rest of the top table guests whist we tried to eat (had to do this as BM at my sisters and didn't feel comfortable so hardly touched my food. Plus, as a round table we were all able to engage each other in conversation and not just chat to the people sat right next to us!

I had one, we were the centre round table of 9... much better as our table could be so much more sociable!

Seems like a great idea. I hated being on the top table at my sister's wedding, as I was stuck on the end and had nobody to talk to!

Sounds like it would work really well, especially with the window and chandelier. Like the idea of being able to talk to the whole table more easily without feeling like the centre of attention.

Only thing for me would be the half of the top table with noone sat at it might look quite bare if its a big table (sort of an expanse of tablecloth, if you see what I mean). And putting a big centrepiece or something could block the view of people.

Are the other tables round and just placed in a U? Or are they rectangular and done like banqueting tables in a U shape?

I am going to have one as every wedding I have been to that has had a top table, I have always felt sorry for the people sat there (including the bride and groom). It looks very lonely, and there were times when someone had left the table to whoever was next to them had no-one to talk to.

We are having a round table. As it happens we are not having parents on top table (as mine are divorced and re-married and the politics of it is too much), but even if we were, we'd go for round. Much more condusive to chatting etc.

We're having a round table too. Partly because I don't like the formality of a long top table and partly because we can fit an extra 10 guests in the room doing it this way. x

I think it sounds great if you get a lovely spot, and if no-one has their backs to the guests I don't think theirs an issue. I agree with agentblackcat it's probably more social. We're having a traditional top table (too many to have a round one and still face guests) but we're even considering having spare two seats at each table to so we can go and 'visit' everyone during the meal and evening as it might feel a bit stuffy facing forward and only being able to talk to my wife and my chief bridesmaid (not that I don't love them dearly!)
