knitting_vixen, 18 December, 2010 at 14:17 Posted on Planning 0 23

Yes, I am just showing off... how shameless...

here is a photo of one of the favours I have made... with vintage fabric and stuffed with lavender, cost hardly anything. These are on display in my living room, will be making 60 for September.

Here is a teacosy, a scarf and some wrist warmers I have knitted for my 3 sisters in law:

Heart those wrist warmers - do you make them to sell? They'd be perfect for my job! Get horribly cold hands but need to keep my fingers uncovered (even fingerless gloves aren't any good ...)

Yep, everything I knit is from a pattern, I am not clever enough to make it up as I go along.

Squares is still good, you can make blankets, scarves and wrist warmers (knit a square then sew it into a tube)...

I am afraid not, I only have time to knit stuff for me or pressies. I wouldn't be able to charge a fair price, if you consider that I spent well over 10 hours knitting these I wouldn't be able to charge for the time it took!

I have had a look on ebay and there are handknitted wrist warmers at a very good price- here's a link to one:

I know, it's just I've been knitting squares since I was small and never pushed myself to learn to do better! Is it hard to learn to do something fancy like your tea-cpsy? I'm thinking of going to one of the knitting groups here in London, figure it's better to be shown than try to learn from a book Smiley smile

I'm on ravelry too Smiley smile BlondeViki again!

I have added you both, I am knittingvixen on there too!

Blondeviki, I am a member of a knitting group in London- whereabouts are you? Even if you don't live near me (Greenwich) you should join a knitting group, it is a great way to improve your skills.

The tea cosy was fairly easy, you only need to know how to decrease (knit two together, as simple as that!) and with the colour, you carry the yarn at the back (honestly this is really easy and not as complicated as you may think). Also, if you are following a pattern and not sure how to do something, You Tube is a godsend. I learnt how to turn a heel (for making socks) that way! Every possible stitch has a tutorial on there.

Meant to say, the patten for the teacosy is a free Ravelry download, if you add me as a friend and look at my projects you will see the link to it.

They are very easy to make- I am not a great sewer! Just cut out heart shapes with pinking shears and sew around the edge. leave a gap, put in the lavender and sew up the gap. Then sew on a mother of pearl button... the string is garden jute twine! Costs hardly anything to make, you can buy big bags of lavender on ebay and vintage fabric scraps...

Oooh having someone to go to a knitting group with would be wonderful - it would give me more reason to go as well. If I finally start using some of the big bag of wool I have stashed, OH might finally let me buy more (though I think I have more than I'll ever use, it's so pretty!!).

Good plan - if the Greenwich one is too far I'll have a look for a more central group - there must be a few knocking about!

Hi Blondeviki, we meet in East Greenwich (at a pub called The Pelton) on a Wednesday. You may be better off going to stitch n ***, they meet every week near a tube stop (usually somewhere central) they have a wesbite and you can join their email list, just Google stitch n *** London, OR search your location in Ravelry, I am sure there will be some kind of group near you.

    Kj82-

Thanks! The pattern is free on a website called Ravelry (www.ravelry.com), you have to join, but it is free and so worth it, there are 1000s of patterns, most of which are free.

Join, add me as a friend "knittingvixen" and either message me, or just look at my projects, it will have a link to the pattern.

It all looks fab. I used to knit lots when the kids were small but haven't done it for years. Looking at this thread I might just pick up my needles again!
