I had a short haired, but very similar breed.

One thing you should know is that oriental type breeds are...erm....talkative! My girly used to chat away to me the moment I walked through the door, because obviously I needed an update on all she'd been up to!

They take quite a lot of attention, and sometimes put themselves in stupid situations, like taking on dogs. Mine, I didnt find out until she died, used to walk to a local school on a daily basis with a family that walk past the house, and their terrier.

Anyway, they are more like owning a dog than a cat but its so rewarding, they are so much fun and a real companion. Obviously that fur will need brushing!!

    Hope that helps!

Thanks girls...well he is not being looked after well at the moment as the woman is suffering a bad pregnancy and she doesnt have time for it. It would be an indoor cat because of where we live so no worries with that but wanted to know if they malted a lot as OH doesnt like loads of fluff on him. Id sit there for hours cuddling him....maybe ill have to talk to OH around a bit more. They are desperate for us to have him!

Same here! When I was a kid we had two cats who I used to put on my knee and hold down cos I wanted a lap cat. needless to say they NEVER wanted to sit on my knee lol Smiley sad

I have a lap cat now, an adorable blue short haired thing that thinks he's human.. You wont regret getting a cat, they're the best thing ever. When you get home and hubby is out, you'll be greeted by a meowing cat wanting your attention and kisses - I love it!

Here's one of mine looking after me this afternoon -

And one of our others cuddled up with H2B -

How could anyone NOT want a cat? Go onnnnnnn Sparkles, work your magic on your Hubby! Smiley laugh

Yes! Tell him you NEED a guardcat! If there are any funny noises in the house, my 3 all jump up and run downstairs.. It's never anything, probably just one of the rabbits but it's nice having someone/thing with you when you're on your own.. My H2B works nights so I share the bed with 2 cats when he's working (The other cat likes to sleep in odd places; the wardrobe, squeezed down the side of a desk in the office, behind the sofa, in a corner in the spare room etc..!)

Cats in a home are a must Smiley laugh

Just some questions to ask the owner:

Has he been vaccinated, wormed, flea'd. If yes when, as this needs to be done yearly, monthly etc.

Has he been castrated? i know he's an older cat but is he litter trained? Does he scratch things? ie your lovely leather sofa?? Is he good with men, adults, children etc?

Is he microchipped? Does he have any pre-existing conditions, ie, diabetic etc

One thing to ask yourself, Have you got the money to look after this cat? You need to count in insurance about £20 per month, vaccinations, £50 per year, Worming and flea tx about £80 per year. microchipping £20. Also if you dont get insurance then have you got the money to fix him if he needs lots of treatment at the vets??

Sorry i've given you all this, I'm a veterinary nurse so i like to make sure people know what they are getting to!!

Apart from that he looks like a gorgeous cat!!! So i would have him!!!

Yes yes yes, ragdolls are gorgeous, i have 3 maine coons and if i didn't have them i'd have ragdolls, my friend has 2, stunning cats, great nature. My 3 are house cats too, try chick crumb as cat litter, far more effective, clumps better, cheaper and you use less......

Insurance wise i use petplan, and costs £18 a month for each cat.....

Make sure you get a lifetime cover not 12 monthly!! Sorry to blabber on, but if you get lifetime then whatever condition he has (say diabetes) then they will cover him for the rest of his life!

If you only get 12 monthly cover, then they will only cover you from the day the condition started for 12 months. After that you are on your own!!!!

I use petplan too!! Think its about £15 but i've only got a moggie!!!

Just to add - We had all 3 cats vaccinated for their first year, but after that we have decided not to, alot of others don't either. There are alot of very good points for not needing to do it every year. It's just not necessary as the vaccines last longer than a year anyway.

None of ours are insured either. They were housecats up until a year ago and as housecats I felt that risks to them were alot lower than outdoor cats so didn't see the need. Whenever they've needed to go to the vets (Ear infections, infected scratch etc) it's always been less than £100 which has been easily payable. We may look into insurance now they are outdoor cats, but even now, they go out for probably 3-5 hours per day depending on the weather and we live in the sticks so my main reason for insurance is still pretty low (vehicle related incidents!). Obviously cats can develop stuff just like humans though.

Yay!! We have two lovely Birmans, Macavity and Boris and I love them to bits. We got them cause my OH works away a lot so they're my guardians. They are very loving and are always looking for rubbies Smiley smile They are indoor cats, but my OH cut a hole in the back door which leads out to a little hut for them Smiley smile BrideBrat, I would say be careful about the vaccinations - if you ever need to put them in a cattery then they may not take them if they are not up to date - just in case.

They were in a cattery for 7 weeks last year, costing me over £700 overall so I don't plan on them being in one ever again after that lol!

Some catterys have seperate quarantine kennels for cats without vaccinations/diseases away from the main cattery block.

Ragdolls are beautiful... they are the ones that if you pick them up the go floppy, which I think means you have to be a bit careful with them if you are prone to picking them up as if they fall they don't save themselves...

I have a birman/chinchilla x and a chinchilla pure breed, and they are a lot of work as far as grooming, which I assume would be the same for Raggies - but they are stunning breeds...!

    Happy re-homing!!

I terms of insurance, can I give some advice. I work at the Royal Veterinary College and therefore have a lot of friends who are vets.

ALL my friends suggest Petplan insurance. They are the most reliable and best cover. From the vets point of view, if you have proof of cover with Petplan, most vets will just go ahead and treat the animal straight out. Vets tend to be less trusting of other insurance policies and will often make you pay, then you claim from the insurance. With petplan, the vets will usually claim directly.

Ive never had any problem with them, and they paid a fortune out for my cat when she got hit by a car.

Im adopting an indoor cat, having the home check tomorrow!! He has feline AIDS, but im still going to insure him.

He will be fine once he gets used to his surroundings, all the new smells and noises can be upsetting for cats.....they are very sensitive wee creatures! I could not imagine my life without mine..........theyre my wee babies ( got Velvet initally when i was feeling broody - have 3 kids already so a cat was the next best thing lol).....My OH isnt a pet person...he says theyre only entertaining when they fight lol

Oooh this is making me want another cat...We had to give Archiebella away a few months after Oliver (my Son) was born because she instantly despised him, and I was worried for his safety. I kept her for al long as I could thinking she would get used to him, but it never happened. Oddly enough she was a very unaffectionate little tortoiseshell moggie who rarely gave me cuddles.

I cried for an hour when the new family came to take her, it broke my heart.
