Hey, congrats on deciding to do it!

I started uni in Sep doing nursing, and absolutely love it. In our maternity lecture, they did say about the midwifery course having only a handful of places each year, with hundreds of applications so it sounds very competitive to get on to (although I don't know from first hand experience - I'm planning to do the 18 month top up to midwifery when I've been nursing for a few years)

My only advice would be just make sure your application stands out, and if you don't already have any healthcare experience get some volunteering in now before the applications and interviews.

Very best of luck with your application though - If its anything like nursing you won't regret it!

Good luck if you go ahead! Any midwife will tell you it's incredibly rewarding when everything goes well, but when it goes wrong it's twice as hard you think it will be. For those that can take the rough with the smooth it's a great career.

Talk to a real midwife before you make the decision though, it's all fine having other people tell you to go for it, but talk to the people who really know too.
