O/T - Just back from Egypt

Debbie Graham Jewellery, 1 April, 2011 at 07:20 Posted on Planning 0 17

Morning all,

Me & hubby just got back from Egypt last night & if any of you are worried about booking to go to Sharm El Sheikh... DONT WORRY

We have had the most amazing holiday ever. I have never met such welcoming, friendly people as the Egyptians we met. They could not do enough for us.

The weather was AMAZING. blazing hot sunshine very day (even got up to 36 degree's one day)

This holiday was my 40th birthday present from my hubby & my lovely mum came to llok after my son, so we had such a relaxing break.

Now on with the unpacking & back to work.

Debbie

You will have an amazing time, it really is fab over there.

We stayed in the Nabq bay area. it was really quiet around the resort & you do need to prepare yourself for the hasstle you get from some of the shop keepers but a firm "no thanks I am only looking" did the job for us in "most" cases.

We did a trip called "sharm by starlight" where youget to go in the camels then up to the sinai hills withe the bedoin (sp) people, they cook you some traditional food & you can have a go on the smoking pipe thing. We then watched the sun set over the sinai mountains & when it got darker we had an astromoner point out all the star constelations for us. There is no light polution up in the mountains so the detail was amaing, you can even see the rings around saturn.

To be honest, we didnt really do much but sun bathe as my mum looked after my son at home so it was just me & hubby relaxing. I tan really easily & have never come back so brown after just 1 week. shame it wont last long now I am back Smiley surprise(

It was quite windy everyday but you really need that wind as it was SO hot

Hope you have a fab holiday

    Debbie

We've been in Egypt 3 times and still love it. In June you'll be ROASTING! We went at the end of May/start of June last year and the heat was too much for us to be honest. Even at night it's still very hot. During the day it wasn't windy but it was a a bit at night but then it's hot wind at night which is bizarre.

JLCB2B We've done a lot of the trips from Sharm so if you need a hand deciding what to maybe do just give me a shout. We booked all the trips through the agents on Namma Bay called Cataract Tours. They look after you great and care about the level of standard they provide on the trips.

Debbie what hotel did you say at and JLC were are you going?

We were considering Egypt again for May but for a few reasons we probably won't go back just yet.

We stayed at the Red Sea Holiday Village in Nabq bay. its a first choice hotel & although I would say it is more aimed at families with young children, we loved it.

It was pretty quite really (although seemed to be getting busier as we were leaving) we spent each day down at the beach, so were never bothered by screaming kiddies around us. The beach was not really suitable for children really as the sand was more like builders sand, if you know what I mean. The families there with kids seemed to stay around the pool areas which suited us fine.

We were all inclusive & although we took approx £100 uk & changed it into Egyptian pounds we found it hard to spend our money. the majority went on tips to the staff. The place was spotlessely clean everywhere. We have never enjoyed a holiday so much.

We are thinking of booking for October for another week but this time take my son with us, as there is still lots for him to do even though he is almost 15

Not sure I could handle the heat though in June, I found it a struggle on a couple of days whilst we were there & I dont usually mind hot sun.

Ah note to self - remember SPF 50!! I burn really easily so i'll need to have lots of protection. We went to Turkey a couple of years ago and it was roasting so we spent a lot of time around the pool.

We will be staying in Sharm at the Baron Palms hotel all inclusive for two weeks, it's our friend's honeymoon type thing so we wanted to splash out. Half of us will be spending a lot of time diving - I start my training this weekend - I cannot wait to see all the colours etc that lurk in the water.

Debbie - I am loving the idea of the "sharm by starlight" - can you let me know the rough cost for it please?

Any other tips would be great, I don't think we'll be doing too many trips due to the cost of the actual holiday, but it's good to have some options from people who have already been ?

I'm exactly the same - the best sun cream I've ever had is Nivea kids one, you can get little handbag sized bottles too so it's easy to carry round and keep putting on, it's really good, factor 50 ?

We booked the trip with the reps at the hotel & it cost us £39.00 each.

We got picked up at the hotel at 2.15pm - coach ride over to the Sinai hills, onto the camels for about 15/20 mins then we got upto the bedoin camp. Had a cup of mint tea & a go on the hubbly bubbly pipes.

We then watched the sun set over the Sinai mountains, it was amazing to see & the canyon we were in filled with hundreds of dragonflies as the sun was setting.

The Bedoins then cooked us a meal (very tasty) then we got to join them in a dance around their camp fires.

Once it had got dark enough we had an astronomer guide who gave a quick talk on the constellations above us & poited out quite a few of the starts (big dipper, etc) We then went onto to take alook through 3 different telescopes that had been set up & you could see the rings around Saturn really clearly.

We got back onto the coach & back to the hotel at around 9/9.30pm. We had a fab day out.

Ours was the exact same trip you described but we only paid £25 for it, same with all the excursions. On our first day our barman at the Royal Albatross moderna, I think its next door to the jaz mirabel gave us a great tip!! If you walk down to the little group of shops in Nabq bay there is a little man i cant reember his name he has a red coca cola stall selling the same trips as the reps but not taking comission obviously!! You will save loads! Happy honeymoon! xx
