O/T What are you doing for New Years?

MrsLtobe, 28 December, 2010 at 19:00 Posted on Planning 0 22

Hey all!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

What have you all got planned for New Years? We were supposed to be going to my OH's family for a few days who live up North, but with OH ill and the incoming snow we thought it best to stay at home...

I'm at a loss of what to do... we're both pretty ill at the moment, but I'm hoping we'll be better for New Years.

I don't really like to drink at home and OH isn't a big drinker either.. want to make it a lil bit special, if not the evening, then definitely New Years Day.. but it will just be the two of us...

What do you guys think?

I think your story sounds very similar to mine we were supposed to be going to OH parents who live in Newcastle but not sure if we are going now - so I will be watching this thread with interest - I hate goint out new years eve as its sooo busy so we might have to see if we can gategrash a friends house party failing that it will prob be a evening of dvds with the heating on!!

We're going to my BM's near Chester and going to her local pub who have a band on. They've limited the amount of tickets so its not rammed so should be quite nice and chilled (ish!)

We had a NYE in a couple of years ago where I cooked a few courses from my Thai cookbook that I got for xmas that year. I picked about 4-5 different dishes and then started cooking about 4-5pm and cooked one dish at a time, and we spent the night watching movies and eating. Was lovely and relaxed and the food was lovely! I do love cooking though!

Hope everyone has a good one! x

We are going to our friend's pub. We get free drinks all night whenever we go so it'll be a very cheap night! It's out in the countryside too so no idiots will be there (Apart from us lol)

I feel for you being ill, we all had it a few weeks ago & just managed to get rid of it all before xmas day.

I hope that you manage to do something nice on new years eve.

My OH is taking me to the hogmonay festival in Scotland for 3 days over new year! he has been dropping majoy hints about proposing whilst we are there so I hope he does!

We have planned so much for the wedding already but without a proper proposal have had to keep it secret from family but now its getting difficult as phone calls need to be made etc. Im not longer excited I just want him to get on with it!!! hehe!

what ever you all do, I hope its a good one! ?

    House Partay!!!!!!!!!

Much better than the pub, I cannot stand having to buy a ticket to go in the pub that I drink in normally, only for them to oversell the tickets, put the prices up and play awful awful music!!!

House party at a friends is much better, cheap booze, our own music and we can just crash out on the floor when we are done!

    Bring on 2011!!!!!

Kitty, if you are heading to edinburgh for the hogmany bash please make sure you are well wrapped up with sensible footwear on - stomping boots - spending all that time out in the cold air with a billion others isnt really all that much fun if you're not prepared for it.. i hope you get your wish Smiley smile

we are having a dinner party for a few friends, will prolly be a very refined affair lol friends are staying over as well so up early for breakfast in the morning....

There may well be but if you're wearing wellies wear at least 3 pairs of socks.....its still bitterly cold at the open air gigs and your toesies might get trod on..

I'm with you sammy (not literally!!!). I'm not a great fan of New Year. My OH and I will be having a lobster dinner and then getting out the wii or xbox band in a box thingy after we've put our littlie to bed. Much prefer that to house parties or over crowded pubs. Old...me....?!

You lucky ladies! We spent our Christmas with my parents in Birmingham, meanwhile our house in Sheffield had a burst water pipe in the attic and has flooded the whole of the house. Our neighbours went round to check on the house this morning for us and called us with the bad news. So we're spending our new year pealing wallpaper and checking the dehumidifiers. So sad, we'd only just finished redecorating the place! Hope you all have a better New Year!

Im 25 babybee, so i just dont think its to do with age hehe

we arent big drinkers- hate the fact you have to pay so much, drinks double in price, you have to pay to get in pubs!, taxis are double the price. its too cold to be out hehe. the fireworks that happen can be seen from inside- in the warm! hehe

we just stay in, enjoy each others company and i will say 'we are getting married this year' hehe

Thank goodness for that! Hehehe, I'm 40 in March eeeeeeek, but certainly don't feel it. This time last year I didn't even know I was going to get engaged, let alone be married! And here I am now an OM for two months! How lovely that you've still got your big day to look forward to....and come 12.01 on Sunday morning, you'll be saying 'it's this year'! Yay!

    Hi there!

Well, first I hope to be healthy! LOL For the last 2 NYEs I have been in bed with flu, and last year I was really bad, was off work for most of January - I started feeling bad on 30th and by 31st at midnight I was so bad I spent NYE with a home visit from the doctor who eventually told me (after blood tests) that I had a "mutated strain of swine flu" and not made easier by the fact that I am diabetic. And I had the jab too! I have never been so ill in my life! Then when i was just about to return to work after 2 weeks, the Sunday before going back I got food poisoning for the first time in 10 years and was so sick I ended up with the doctor again as I pulled a muscle being sick!!! OH promptly fell ill with flu himself on NYD too! And we had 8 people for New Year's day Dinner on 2nd Jan - i was meeting his Gran for the first time too on that occasion - thank God for Tamiflu - otherwise I don't know how I would have gone through cooking all day a three-course meal for 8, decorating the table etc... But IU am told it was excellent (OH spent all evening in bed with us checking on him every so often, and I was sat at the table not touching anything, I was so poorly and couldn't smell or taste anyway!)

So this year we plan to at least be healthy enough and not too tired to have a little drink just the two of us and make a wish at midnight! LOL ?
