Pancakes for dinner or dessert?

Cosmopolitan, 24 February, 2009 at 13:44 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 43

What do you do?

I'd happily just have pancakes for dinner but OH likes his meal and then pancakes for dessert. He says he feels as if he hasn't been fed if he doesn't have a proper meal. (caveman icon)

My husband doesn't really like puddings at all and doesn't go for pancakes for either, really. thank goodness my 2 year old loves them, it used to be me eating 8 or 9 by myself every year ?

There was a fab creperie we used to go to, I always had a chicken curry galette, which sounds rank but was gorgeous, served with mango chutney. shame we don't live nearby any more, sigh.

My H is the same as yours Cosmopolitan. Whereas I would just have pancakes as both main and dessert, he feels he needs to eat something proper first.

edited to add - i have mine as both savoury (cheese and ham) and sweet (lemon, sugar or mixed fruit)

It would usually be for dessert but because we're both dieting but really love pancakes we decided to just have the pancakes and no dinner, so i've doubled up the quantity ? They'll just be served with sugar and lemon and golden syrup

We have ours as desert, mainly becasue of me. My OH and step daughter would happily have them as their dinner but for me it feels wrong not to have eaten dinner first.

Last year we had savoury pancakes (ham & cheese) followed by sweet (lemon & sugar or maple syrup). Twas lovley. We cooked them on our raclette set which has a hot plate you can plug i and make your pancakes at the table.

This year we will have to wait until the weekend for pancakes as I'm staying in a delightful Holiday Inn tonight. Lovely.

Unusually for someone who doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, nothing but pancakes will do for dinner on Pancake Day for me - SB who has the sweet tooth of Augustus Gloop (though thankfully looks nothing like him) is more than happy with just pancakes, pancakes and more pancakes.

Tonight I am introducing him to the delights of pancakes with golden syrup and squooshy cream - although have caster sugar and fresh lemon on standby too.

And a biiiiigggg bottle of wine to celebrate my resignation (as soon as the official email comes through with my contract, eekkk. Sorry to go on about it, it's making me so nervous!)

Dessert here, as I couldn't manage pancakes for both, and like the lemon and sugar ones too much to miss. We're just having a REALLY light dinner though.

Just pancakes chez Mr and Dr R-A.

We also had them for dinner on Saturday, we eat them probably twice a month, either for a weekend breakfast or a can't-be-bothered-to-cook tea. ?

Both here. spinach, ricotta, toms and basil for mains, then lemon/sugar or maybe maple syrup for pud.

I haven't had pancakes since I was a child. My nan would always cook them for dessert and we'd have them with lemon and suagr, nothing else.

I might try and make them for dinner tonight, not sure how they will turn out though ?

Probably pancakes with lemon and sugar for main course, then fruit for pudding ? I was going to do Cottage pie but Mr G is working, my brother is going out, B & C probably won't eat it and A won't each much either! So pancakes will have to do...mmmm!

SLD, I wonder if a sweet tooth is a man thing. MrSun can get through a squeezy bottle of golden syrup in just over a week - he loves it on porride. Don't get me wrong, I like some on porridge too but he practically has a whole layer on top of his. He even puts sugar on Frosties ?

We're having both - savoury for main and sweet for desert. Not sure how it'll pan out but I've got spinach and ricotta and baby leeks to go in the savoury ones and all sorts for the sweet - I've got a load of friends coming over to eat so am trying to accommodate all tastes. Could be a disaster!

It depends what else we've eaten. I have been to anetworking breakfast and also a networking lunch. I don't need more proper food, so will just have pancakes tonight for tea. H will have a meal followed by pancakes

Dumb question, but those of you having savoury pancakes (with ham/cheese/whatever), do you just make your pancakes and then put the ham/cheese inside them, or actually add the ingredients whilst cooking the pancakes?

I've only ever made mine with lardy sweet stuff thrown on.

I put the ham and cheese in halfway through cooking so that the cheese melts.

Then I sprinkle icing sugar over it so that melts too - my mouth is watering!!!!

Pancakes for dinner actually makes me feel sick. It's one of my food funnies.

I have never had them for dinner and never would. H just mentioned having them with beans ?

I couldn't eat a meal and then pancakes afterwards so it's just a dinner of pancakes for me with sugar and lemon, other fillings are banned!
