party games for 6 year olds

janeyh, 8 July, 2009 at 23:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Pass the parcel is a given

probably also musical statues

we have a bouncy castle and huge sandpit so hoping it wont pee down and that will be enough - other than that and in the event of 20 bored children being in my house any suggestions!?

would they be too young for the chocolate game? (ie have to stick hat coat and gloves on and cut up a bar of dairy milk?)

Definitely not too young for choc game - although maybe make it more easy - no gloves? They will be slow rolling the die anyway so it evens itself out.

Other popular games in our family:

Balloon volleyball: kids in 2 rows facing each other, sitting on floor. Aim is to hit balloon over heads of other team - score by balloon touching floor behind other team. Can introduce more than one balloon to make it more exciting. If bums move off floor they lose a goal ? First to 10 or until tea's ready.

'the sun shines on' - sit in a circle ideally on cushions, one kid in the middle. You say 'the sun shines on......' and add any identifying feature e.g. anyone wearing blue, anyone with black hair, anyone who goes to XX school. Those kids have to jump up and swap places. The kid in the middle has to grab one of the spaces. One will be left in the middle and then you start again. Silly and v lively but good at wearing them out!

They are definitely young and gullible enough for sleeping lions!

Musical bumps - with cushions on the floor.

Musical hats - sit in a circle facing round (ie looking at the person in front's back), you need a selection of hats - the sillier the better. When the music starts, take the hat from your head and put it on the kid in front. Keep going. When the music stops the kid without a hat is out. Always goes down v well and makes for some awesome silly photos too esp if grown ups join in ?

Keeper of the keys - nice quiet one for post-teatime.

    Ladders

    Egg and spoon races.

Over/Under: teams of 4 or 5 standing up in a line (facing each others' backs). Balloons again: first kid passes it over their head to next kid. Next kid passes it between legs to next one behind them. Carry on over/under til gets to the back. Kid at the back runs round to the front with the balloon and starts again. Keep going til the kid who started at the front is back at the front. First team to finish wins.

If any of the above aren't self evident give me a shout and I'll explain them.

I'll think of loads more as soon as I've posted this. We heart party games!

ETA thought of one more already: duck, duck, goose

Thought of another one: oranges and lemons, finishing with big tug o' war

Don't forget 'Pin' the tail on the donkey (although sticking with stickers/blue-tac probably safer!) - a great classic party game.
