Passport name change

Ali_G, 3 July, 2012 at 09:06 Posted on Planning 0 17

£77.50!!! ?

Just to change my blinkin' name. If you're considering travelling in your married name, I would think again. If I'd known it would cost that much, I never would have done it - especially as my current passport still has about 7 years on it!

    Hi,

I know I think it's terrible, they should just be able o change your name FOC or for a small fee. We have just booked a holiday for next year & H2B booked it in my married name so will need to change mine too & think it's got about 8 years left.

We're going on honeymoon in September and I have booked the flights in my maiden name. It's so ridiculous you have to get a whole new passport!! Especially since H has gone and lost his passport so well have to pay for a new one anyway!!

Yep! Didn't even consider changing mine. I have 3 years left on it.

As long as you book in the same name as is on your passport, it's fine.

Conveniently, my passport expired 2 months before the wedding, so I just waited till afterwards and got a new one in my new name for the same price I'd have had to pay anyway.

My passport runs out in march next year and i get married in the may so I can change mine straight into my married name 3 months before the wedding, so i have to get the relevant name change forms and send them off in febuary, i have to take the forms back to the registrars office so the registrar who will be doing the service can sign them and away the go, sending them off in plenty of time to make sure the come back before our honeymoon.

My passport expires in March 13 and I get married in May 13, so i can renew my new passport in my married name 3 months before the wedding, just got to get the correct forms from the post office and take it back to the registrars office so they can sign it and then it can be sent away in february thats the time i was advised to get the forms signed and sent of,.

We are getting married early September, having our Honeymoon a couple of weeks later..passport doesnt expire until 2016!!!

If I wait until after the Honeymoon to change all my documents, can I apply for a new passport to change my name but also my photo? They cant use my 2006 one for a renewal in 2013 can they as in 2023 I will be 37...and looking very different to how I looked aged 20...

How do you go about renewing it after the wedding? Do you just send them a copy of your marriage certificate?

My driving licence needs renewed (after it's 10 years are up) the month before the wedding (actually, that's now, whoops!) but the damn thing will be away getting renewed while the wedding is happening only to be shipped off again a few days later so I've opted not to renew it until after the wedding and just not drive for a few weeks! Luckily with where we live I can get away with that.

Driving licence name changes are free though, unlike the passport ones. So it'll save hassle in not having to send it away twice, but won't cost you any extra

It's the 10 year photo renewal but just annoying that it's due just before the wedding so would be sent back to me only to be sent off again. It's a pain in the bum.

Yep, mine had to renewed this April. So by the time we get married, it will still have 8 years.

H2B expects me to change it...I've told him he can pay for it if he is that bothered

The one advantage to US passports is that they'll do a free name change within a year of it being issued.

H2B was just saying today that he didn't see the point of having any copies of the marriage certificate... told him that he can deal with all the name changing in that case. ?
