I love Pizza Express. My favourite is the American Hot Pizza and Garlic doughballs.

Don't go very often but have never not enjoyed a meal there.

I think it depends entirely which one you go to, there are a couple near us that are in lovely old buildings and are very nice, but then there is another one that's like a canteen

Have you got a Zizzi's / Prezzo near you - they are lovely

I've never eaten in a bad Pizza Express! It's way, way superior to other pizza chain restaurants...on a par with Strada imo. We're eating at the one in Lewes, E. Sussex tomorrow...that's not the one you're off to, is it? ?

Given a choice I'd rather go to Zizzi's if I "had" to go to a chain restaurant. Isn't there a local pizzeria you could go to instead and support local business?

    I really like pizza express.

For a starter I would either have the tomato & mozzarella salad or the mixed plate thing with bits of cured meats, bread etc (can't remember what it's called but it's really nice)

For the pizza, I usually have a margherita and then add parma ham, red onion, chicken or a mixture of toppings as I'm quite fussy. Although I do like the American. All washed down with a nice grande nastro - delish!

They do one with goats cheese and caramelised onions which is just stunning!

Make sure you have some garlic bread too - though be warned it is usually very hot when it arrives!

    Enjoy ?

I adore Pizza Express, it's streets ahead of the other pizza/pasta chains IMHO.

The Giardinera pizza is fab, it has an egg on it - mmm! I usually have the Bosco salad though - garlic mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, avocado, and mozzarella with balsamic dressing - mmmmmm!

I llllllllllllllove Pizza Express, much nicer than Strada and the like, imo.

I normally have either doughballs/garlic bread/bruschetta for a starter and a sloppy guiseppe for my main, rather piggily I also ask for some garlic butter to dip my crusts into.

    Yummo, am very jealous.

That is a lovely one! I live in Redditch!

Far far better than the pizza resturant opposite?

You can use tesco vouchers with them (need to order in advance though!)

I was going to recommend American Hot (with extra olives) and Fiorentina (with an extra egg) - but mrs W beat me to it. The new big, thin, crispy ones (I forget what they're called - poss Romana pizzas) are nice.

If you go on the pizza express website there are often deals for £10 and you get either g.bread or doughballs, a choice of pizza (both of the above are in it) and a glass of wine/a beer/soft drink for a tenner a head. Can't argue with that!

Love pizza express too. Many a drunken night spent at the Victoria one.

Now however, far more sensible. Anyway, a Fiorentina and the baby figs for deserts.

Oooh that is my favourite too. Yum. Not very pregnancy friendly for the OP though! In fact, come to think of it, I don't think I've had that since I've not been pregnant any more...must rectify that ASAP!

They've stopped doing the baby figs <sob>

I am a dough ball or garlic bread with mozarella type of gal, followed by a sloppy giuseppe or american hot. Hope you enjoyed!

God the baby figs, I was just going to post about those. My BF who has just been round (see SND thread) had made this exact thing for pudding tonight, but due to her mad In laws will be forced to eat it alone with her H for dinner tomorrow..shaaaame.

You can have goat's cheese when pregnant so long as it's pasteurised which I suspect a chain like PE would use. anyway, it's cooked, so fine.

I tend to go to PE more now I have kids as they are quite child friendly, which isn't always a good thing for others ? anyway, it's perfectly fine for a chain, although not the best pizza you can get.

I went the other night and had sloppy giuseppe and dough balls. I like to have a mixed salad normally too. I had a tiramisu for pudding, although I used to like their summer pudding which they don't do any more and I preferred it when their Giardineria had peas on it ?

any of the pizzas with the eggs on are nice too.

I'd go just for the doughballs, dipped in garlic butter. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

There was a Norfolk food festival last year (rock and roll!) and the Pizza Express at the Forum did a free session where kids could go and make a pizza not quite from scratch - they were given the base ready flung, but got to do the rest. Anna's pizza tasted amazing, far better than the one we had when we went to the same PE a few weeks later. Perhaps her calling is as a pizza chef ?
