Please recommend me a foundation

Chidders, 17 August, 2011 at 11:17 Posted on Planning 0 23

I am coming to the end of my Christian Dior foundation which I am a fan of, but I do fancy a change. I am more than likely going to be doing my own make up for the wedding, and so I would like to trial a foundation that would be good for the wedding day.

HIB - Any help would be greatly appreciated

OM's - What did you wear, and how did it last and look in pictures?

B2B's - any favourites?

TIA

    Hi,

InStyle always rave about Georgio Armani ones but I have never tried it. See their best buys here: https://www.instyle.com/best_beauty_buys

It really depends what type if cover you want. Foundation is a very personal thing.

Speaking from my wedding make up artist days, something like Double Wear is very heavy so if you like a high coverage matt foundation then it does the job very well. Dior Forever is also a good coverage quite matt foundation that stays well but probably not quite as heavy as Double Wear.

Some Chanel foundation are very nice too, I just used Vitalumiere Aqua but its quite sheer and can move.

You should also invest in a good primer for your wedding day - Laura Mercier is the best one for this.

Your best bet is to go to a dept store and have them apply some on you. Dont impulse buy as high end foundations are not cheap!

    Thanks,

    Anna

I have never used a primer. What does it do?

Thanks Anna, yeah maybe I should spend some time at the make up counters. Any excuse, I love make up!

I like this thread....I always chop and change my foundation. I tend to buy a different kind each time. I have had clinique, MAC, Benefit. I'm using benefit just now but not that impressed at the moment. I want to go back to MAC as that has been my favourite. I bought my MAC make up in Canada at duty free. So have no idead what kind of price you pay in the UK for it. Is it much more expensive than other brands I think I paid about £23 for my benefit stuff ?

Hmm good thread, I've also tried loads over the years, liquid ones mineral ones etc etc. I'm just finishing off my Elizabeth Arden mineral foundation which has been quite good but not too great with the coverage, especially the horrid breakout(s) at that time of the month gahhhh!

I think I will stick with mineral based as heard its supposed to be better for the skin?

My sis will use airbrush foundation on the day for me (I've already had a run through) and thought it looked good and held very well Smiley smile

Chidders What's your skintype? Is your skin dry, normal, combination or oily? Do you have blemishes to cover? What sort of cover do you want? I can then point you in the direction if the right base and one that I know will look great in camera. Juliet

Hi Juliet. I have normal skin but oily on the forehead and nose. My skin is quite good no blemishes (today anyway!) and I guess more a medium coverage so it looks good on photos and evens out my skin tone. Thank you for any advise.

I used to have Dior, wanted a change last year and had a makeover done at Mac and the Minerals counters both in Debenhams. Minerals looked miles more natural, the Mac girl was not one bit interested in what I'd asked her to do. Waste of money imho.

I used Chanel Vita Lumiere (sp) on my wedding day and have carried on using it.

Chidders I would recommend Chanel Matt Lumiere or Dior Forever. Both buffed in with a Jemma Kidd Makeup School Flat Top Foundation Brush. They both have buildable cover but look great in camera and very natural. Juliet

The only one I've ever owned that I've really loved is Benefit Playsticks (with Benefit Pore Pefector underneath). I don't normally like to spend that kind of money on make up but I think it's worth it for these!

Juilet, would you reecommend using a primer with either of these on the wedding day?

    Thank you

I use Bare Minerals for my every day foundation but used Bobbi Brown on the day, not sure which one, but it was brilliant. It is buildable coverage so you can go as light or as heavy as you like and did not budge all day. In fact I pretty much used Bobbi Brown for my entire face, except bronzer, and my whole face stayed in place without being touched up once other than one lipstick re-apply !

I went to the counter in my local John Lewis and had a series of make up lessons as it was free to do each section of the face seperately but £65 for their bridal lesson but I think that is free now too.

I wore MAC. It was great but it's not something I could wear on a day to day basis. It felt a bit thick.

No I wouldn't recommend a primer as these bases work best on bare skin. I set them though with Makeup Forever Mist and Fix makeup fixing spray - really makes the makeup last all day. You can get it from www.gurumakeupemporium.co.uk Juliet
