Please settle an argument between me and h2b

Jlo84, 14 August, 2011 at 20:37 Posted on Planning 0 21

Evening all, We have been deciding on music today. The bridesmaids are going down first and then me last with my brother. To save more arguments i am not going to say who said which statement but if you could please let me know which one is right we would really appreciate it...

1) The bridesmaids & bride walk down to the same song

2) The bridemsaids and bride walk down to different ones

If anyone has used Songbird (Eva Cassidy) as their entrance music any help would be fab!

Jen & Iain x

I haven't thought about it and I'm not sure I'd mind but I suppose different songs?

I don't think either way is "right" or "wrong" so perhaps a slightly less combative stance from both of you is appropriate ?

For the record, my BMs and I are walking down to the same song, with them first. I don't recall having seen a bride walk down to a different song than the others.

Depends if the bridesmaids go in front of the bride or behind. In my experience....

In front - is often a different song

    Behind - same song

I was hoping to have two different songs but my venue told me I couldn't and one would be perfectly fine.

Think it might be something to do with the length of time of the songs?

Yeah I think I'd agree with this.

I'm having a pianist rather than played songs so assume I'll have the same song regardless of what order my BMs go down (haven't decided yet).

    Thanks for your responses.

We have chosen Sonbird (Eva Cassidy) which we both love but i am just unsure where i should come in plus it only gives us all 1 min 24secs to all walk down.

Depends how long your aisle is, but that should be more than enough time. I would personally say they should all come down to the same song, especially if you're using a CD, but I don't think it's something that has to be a big issue.

When we timed our venue, it was 15 seconds from rear door to ceremony table - and our chosen piece of music is about two and a half minutes long. What we are doing is playing it in its entirety, but starting with flowergirl entering at 00:30, bride plus father at 00:45, CBM, 1:00, BM+BM 1:15 and ring bearer and escorts 1:30, meaning everyone coming down the aisle has their 'moment of fame' rather than just being in a big bundle, and assuming the timing goes to plan about 30 seconds after the ring bearer gets to the front to get ourselves into our positions or sit down, and head straight into the ceremony.

Have you timed how long the walk is at your venue? You might find that 1:24 is actually enough time, particularly if you're following the traditional "everyone comes in together" approach rather than a timed/staggered approach.

As others have said, same or different songs are both possible, it all depends whether you want to do the bridesmaids first or last, but even then I think either would be suitable. It really depends whether you want to give the BM's their own special time, or reserve all the wonderfulness of the entrance for yourself with your own piece of music.

Did you have any pieces of music in mind for any of the options?

We get married this Saturday and we're having 2 songs

My bridesmaids first to 'Here come the girls' and then me to 'Dream a little dream'

We're having a singer and guitarist and they been so helpful, they have practised it so that one runs into the other.....

    I'm soooo excited!!! xx

PS There is no right or wrong, just have what you want at your wedding!

We had Eva Cassidy Songbird then Canon in D; the string quartet played Songbird before, then the BMs were called when Canon in D started, they walked down, then I did, then my MOH. In reality these songs give you so much time it'd only work to have different ones if the first people walk down at the end of one otherwise it'll be a long wait for the song to end and for the bride to come down.

    I think one is enough.

I should think it depends on what the vicar allows and what you wish to do.

For me I am only having one bridesmaid and one matron of honour (so not loads) and they are going down the aisle before me and we are having the same song. I love the song and so does my MOH so we will egg it for all its worth although after timing it all 3 of us have to get down the aisle in one minute, so it will be more like a run than a gentle stroll haha ;-).

We had Songbird for me to walk down the aisle. I had flowergirls walk down first, followed by myself and I'd be surprised if it even took a minute of the music. Unless you have an exceptionally long aisle then the song is plenty long enough for this purpose. And is a gorgeous song - good choice!

Thanks for that. I am glad someone else has used the song. Our aisle is 23 metres long so I have tried to work it out by walking down my drive(neighbours think I am drunk) and it seems to take 40 seconds so not quite sure how it will work with 3 bridesmaids plus me with only a 1min 25second gap X
