Please would you flash your DIY invitations...?

kingfisher1923, 13 June, 2012 at 15:59 Posted on Planning 0 35

Hi there

Someone has offered to make the invitations for our wedding, which is so kind of them. I would love to be able to give her some ideas of different styles and 'constructions' - I know she makes lovely greetings cards for example, but I don't know if she will have thought about the need for inserts, extra info etc?

I've had a look online at 'professional' ready-bought invitations, which gives lots of design ideas, but I'm not very crafty, so I've no idea what's possible when you're doing it DIY. I wouldn't want to spend a fortune on materials, and as far as I know, she doesn't have lots of complicated craft equipment?!

So I would *love* to see examples of your DIY invitations that you've made, if you would be kind enough to flash them? plus any tips of how you actually made them!

Oh, and if you have any ideas or flashes for winter/Christmassy type invitations, that would also be fab :-)

Thanks so much x

    Goregous invites!

I wish I was patient enough to be able to do my own! I'd give up half way and fling them in the bin!

Loving these so far - thanks! Any others to see? They don't have to be majorly ornate or anything :-)

    Thanks

I dont have a pic of mine, but had pocketfolds with inserts inside. I was going down the complete DIY, print at home route, then found:

    https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/

Even if your friend does them all, this place has the biggest range of cards, textures, paper, pocketfolds etc & you can order everything online. I ended up have them print the writing & maps etc as it looked much more professional than I managed at home. Esp for double sided pocketfold inserts with maps. They were sent flat packet so I still had to glue the pocketfolds together, glue on ribbon, diamante, decorations etc. Just doing that was enough, but gave them a personalised feel but with professional looking printing.

I used a textured pocketfold like this photo, then added an emerald green ribbon with a diamante heart. For the invite inside, before sticking it to the pocketfold, I hole punched a decoration on each corner, & stuck a small piece of the same ribbon behind the cut out part. Inside I used a small velcro dot to hold it together. This is similar, but different coloured ribbon & we had the cream coloured card.

Oh these are all lovely - thank you so much. I love the idea of printing onto tracing paper - that looks really elegant. And the textured pocketfolds are gorgeous!

Sorry girls, i didnt see your question re my invites, first of all thank you all for the compliments, i really appreciate them.

I designed them on Word, and installed new fonts from dafont.com, I particularly like 'my underwood' and 'sketchy' fonts. pics were found under vintage line drawing 'key 'bird cage' ect.

    for 50 cards

£12 3x east of india brown parcel string. although i did run out and several invites were made up with some regular parcel string... looked good but not as nice as the east of india stuff. However if you base things on cost the reg string was just 50p a ball from the PO!

    £4 50x sheets A6 linen card ebay

    £6 50x a5 linen card ebay

£5 50x Hairy Manilla Envelopes eco craft

    £4 ivory a6 envelopes ebay

    £4.70 2x10m organza ribbon ebay

£3.70 for 100 brown tags ebay

    £1.10 100x heart confetti

= around 89p per invite!!!!! (i think lol) maybe even less if you count the fact you wont need 100 heart confetti and 100 tags for 50 invites Smiley smile

and i suppose the more invites you need the more you save per invite as you can buy more in bulk

These are just practice ones but this is the way I want them to turn out (obviously neater!!)

The brighter red isnt the actual colour I am going with, the smaller invite is the actual colour (burgundy) but it was too small so I bought a bigger size and a different red to see the difference (its far too red!!)

LeedsBride, I really love the colour and style of yours, this is just what I was thinking of trying to create. Can I ask where you got the pocketfolds from? I love their sparklyness.

And Soonetobeawife, the patterned border and margins on your invites are really unusual but lovely. Did you buy the card with the pattern, or did you print it yourself?
