poss sens - Testicular Cancer

Quincy, 31 March, 2008 at 19:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

MrQ was a very brave man and went to see the GP today regarding a lump in his testicle.

The Dr has referred him for a scan, but was very non-commital about what it could be. Of course, with any odd lumps we automatically think cancer.

Does anyone have any experiences of TC, or lumps being diagnosed as something other than cancer? ?

All googling has just thrown up the C-word diagnosis.

There are literally LOADS of other things it could be: cysts, hernias, hydrocele/spermatocele (kind of like hernias)...

He has done the right thing by going to the Dr but please don't panic. And don't Google!

As you say, well done him for not ignoring it. An old colleague of mine had testicular cancer when he was about 28. He had a testicle removed very quickly (within months I think). He was already a father of one and he had another child about 18 months after the treatment. Fingers crossed for Mr Q- let us know how he gets on.

According to my mate who had testicular cancer about 6/7 years ago now if you are going to get a cancer it's one of the best ones to get. Over the last 10 years they have managed to learn exactly what the need to zap and it is one of the most curable forms of caner with something like a 98% survival rate at 5 years, and as my mate said that's on treatment from 5 years ago so it's even better now...

Yes he only has one testicle, he had no sperm on ice because he was infertile before his chemo, he now has a beautiful little girl...all his (so his wife says.? and it so is because we can make jokes like that!!?)

He already has a urology appt for 2 weeks time for a different issue, but the GP said the appt for the lump should be before this one. So, hopefully we shouldn't have too long to wait to find out

i'll second the lumps being cysts thing. i've had two cysts since i turned 19, one in each testicle. the scan is pretty straght forward. ultrasound, takes about 5 mins tops, and they can pretty much tell you if its anything to worry about there and then.
id="quote">Anyone else surprised that georgia has turned out to have testicles??

Quincy, please stop googling m'dear. AS others have said, it could be any number of other things, and even if it did turn out to be the worst, as others have said there are many many success stories regarding the treatment of testicular cancer, and google invariably only gives you the horrors.

Thinking of you - it must be a terribly worrying time.

My ex-H had testicular cancer. This was back in the 1980's and things are far more advanced treatment wise these days. He's still alive and kicking and went on to father 4 children with the one testicle.

I hope all is fine for your OH ?

Just seen all the other responses today - thank you.

I have stepped away from google, and have started to believe that it's not necessarily cancer. MrQ is less worried than me.

It really is a very small lump, so hopefully whatever it is it has been caught early.

I am a little surprised at georgia having testicles, but thank you very much for sharing your story nonetheless - it's very reassuring.

About 6 years ago, Mr Toosh found a lump, he was frightened but was a brave soldier and went to GP.
After examination the dr said he could feel 8 maybe 9 lumps.

He booked Mr T in for scan the next week, it was a week of sleepless nights and worry, but it turned out to be cysts, he had them removed a month later, while they had the bonnet up he had a vasectomy (sp)

He still checks him self reg to make sure he has no more lumps.

    Hope every thing goes ok.

My husband had a lump and was referred very quickly to a Urologist. It turned out it to be something called a varicocole (sp) which is essentially a varicose vein in the testicle.

Well done on stepping away from google. I hope everything goes okay.

Mr L had a lump, but by the time he went for the scan it had gone, so they assumed it was a cyst that resolved itself.

My H had a lump (still has in fact) which, when he got it checked out, turned out to be an epididymal cyst, which is harmless. Don't worry too much ?

    Hi
My husband had a few lumps too - turned out to be totally harmless cysts and that varicose vein thing too.

Poor thing said to me at one point 'do you think one day I'll go to the doctors and NOT have to get my nads out?' Bless ?

Best to catch these things early though - i'm sure it's nothing to worry about though, but please step away from the Google!

    Hi,

The chances are your H's lump will be nothing to worry about, but I want to tell you my H's story (for want of a better word) because it is a positive one.

My H found a lump 8 years ago, and was diagnosed after a scan with probable TC. He was 27. The consultant said it is one of the very easiest types to treat, with a 95% cure rate. H had the testicle removed and biopsied, which confirmed diagnosis. He then had a scan, to find some cancer cells had spread to the lymph nodes in his groin.

He had sperm frozen, had one dose of chemo and 3 weeks of radiotherapy. His next scans were clear.

We have a son of 3.5 (not from the sperm bank!) and H has been 100% fine ever since.

I hope you don't think I'm trying to alarm you, as I said the chances are it WILL be fine and nothing to worry about. BUT, if the worst does happen the vast, vast majority of cases have a very positive outcome.

Please PM me if you want to.

    MM❤️
