Pre Wedding shoot

Has anyone done a pre wedding/ engagement shoot?

My friend is doing our photgraphy and am thinking about having one.

What was your experience of this, did you think it was worthwhile?

Its a great opportunity to get to know your tog (from a tog point of view not a friend) and learn to feel comfortable being photographed...

I haven't had mine yet, but will do because our tog includes it as part of their package. They said it helps figure out how you like to be photographed on the day (best angles and stuff) and will make you more relaxed in front of the camera when it comes to the real thing.

I've done a photoshoot for my friend but I think you're right will probably help OH as he isnt really a camera person and he can get to know my friend.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. Will talk to my tog and probably do some nice pictures in Canary Wharf and a park

We didn't book one, but when we met with our photographer at the venue last week with 3 months to go, he bought his camera and took some shots of us, which he said he'll put on our CD of the day but we could have prints done at his standard rates if we wanted any done (although we haven't actually seen them yet).

This was partly to help him get an idea of how things look, how we photograph as a couple, and to help my b2b get used to being photographed (which she really hates), all of which will be of benefit to him on the day.

Did you do a studio shoot or out and about?

My friend is great at getting natural shots

We are having ours in a couple of weeks time! I know its early, but we've already chosen our tog and we want to make sure we will feel happy with him and his style. We also wanted to enjoy the pics now rather than later and we will be using one of them in our guest book frame Smiley smile

We had one last week and was definately worth it. We had ours at our venue, the tog had already gone there before us to look around at potential spots to photograph. It was a great opportunity to get used to the style she uses and also what it's going to be like on the day. We were so nervous to start with, OH said at the very start he felt like a right twit but after half an hour we both opened up a bit more and were having fun by the end of it. She sent us a link to her website were she posted the pics so it also gave let us see the outstanding quality that we will get on our wedding day.

Our tog included it in the package, but for someone who hates having their picture taken(i think my tongue sticks out in all the photos of me), i found it really relaxing and we got to know our tog alot better.

Since our shoot my MIL2B has had one of the photos put onto canvas and we love it!!

Thanks for the feedback. Am not sure when to do it. Not sure if next couple of months would be too early?

We're having one in about 3 weeks, which is lovely as it is only 3 days after our engagement anniversary. I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing really, and I'm hoping that it will make the wedding day much more relaxed, as I'm generally not comfortable in front of a lens. Plus we thought that it would be nice to have some decent pics of us where we're just normal, and not all dolled up in wedding garb ? I'm also going to do my make up similar to how I'm thinking of doing it for the wedding, so it will be interesting to see how it comes out on the photos and what I need to change.

I wouldn't say that in the next couple of months would be too early, but I guess it depends on how you feel about whether it would be more beneficial to you closer to the time. I'm imagining that come next summer my head will be all over the place with final wedding prep that organising the shoot for then would never happen!

We had one which was great... however this did not reflect the wedding day shots. Although the wedding day shots where not horrific they where just OK. He did not give us the package that we had paid for.

On the day other things where going on so we never questioned that he did not have an assistant with him or that he went home early.

It was only after that we questioned him he told us his son was sick. The wedding was over and we could never get the pictures again.

The photos are Ok and is a memory of our day but I was not blown away....

I am sure if a friend is doing yours you will get extra special treatment.

I've just been sorting ours out this morning. I've always thought they were a bit cheesy, but it was included in our package so I thought we might as well go for it. I wouldn't say I love having my photo taken, but I don't mind it, but OH absolutely hates it and ALWAYS pulls a stupid face. Think Chandler in Friends for their engagement shoot.

My sister has just got her wedding album back and OH (who was an usher) has actually ruined some of her photos with his stupid face pulling!

I've spoken to other people who've done it, and they've said that it's put their OHs more at ease with the photographer. Poor lady probably doesn't realise what she's got herself into.

Pre-Wedding shots are always great for couples, as it allows you to get used to having your picture taken by a pro and gives you some nice romantic shots beforehand. You could go a step futher and have a picture printed with a large white border round it and use it as a guestbook/comments board for people to sign.

I'd be interested to hear what you think this is worth though, as the photographer will have added this into your package...
