Question for the self employed here

Do you have insurance in case you get ill or have an accident and can't do your job for a considerable amount of time (a month or more)? So that it would pay you a monthly to make up for loss of earnings?

Personally I don't though probably should because I can sell it myself! I only have critical illness cover which would pay out a lump sum should I contract one of the illnesses listed by the provider which is hopefully unlikely.

I'd be interested to see what others reply...

I don't, but then my income is peanuts compared to Mr FtG's, and we can live on his alone.

Yes, we have it. We woudl use it to pay for someone else to work if we couldn't.

Which insurance company do you use for this?

Argh, I can't remember. It's a group policy organised via our franchisor.

We periodically talk about this wrt Mr R-A but there always seems to be something more pressing to spend the money on or save for. He hasn't got around to sorting out his pension either... (head buried in sand much?...)

To be honest we could just about survive on my salary, I am the higher earner by some way, although it would definitely be tight. I have income protection which covers me if I am not able to do my specific job (not just 'not able to work' IYSWIM). It's definitely worthwhile having imo. I pay £35/month (employed) but obviously the amount varies to do with your income, level of cover, your health etc.
