Random musing - do you drive in heels?

darkivy, 1 March, 2011 at 13:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

Just inspired by seeing a colleague climbing out of her car in 4 inch killer heels! I cannot drive in heels, I get ankle cramp, foot cramp, and generally kangaroo the car and make a right mess of it. I only drive in trainers and change shoes when I get out the car. Everyone else I know has no trouble driving in huge heels. Is it just me?! ?

Don't worry, I'm just the same. I only have one pair of heels I can drive in and the rest of the time I have to change shoes. It's such a PITA.

I can drive in my winter boots and my wedges as they have thicker heels, but my proper heels are usually very thin and i'd be worried about damaging the shoes haha. I also couldn't drive in UGGs as they are too wide.

I love summer when I can drive in my flip flops which some people find very odd.

I drive bare foot too and people always look at me like Im mad! I can drive in heels but usually take them off and drive with no shoes as I [prefer it, also cos I have long legs i usually end up hitting my knees into steering wheel if i drive in heels lol!

In my last job I had to wear steel toe capped rigger boots and used to drive in them too which some people thought was odd!

Not often and never very far - I always thought it was incredibly dangerous to drive in heels as there's a danger that your heel could hook under the brake pedal at an inopportune moment and prevent you carrying out an emergency stop. I don't want the time I test that danger to be the time a child runs out in front of me.

I think flip flops are equally if not more dangerous for driving in, the amount of thimes the sole folds under itself and stops you getting to your pedals, I always take them off to drive now!

I can't walk in 4inch heels let alone drive in them!! I don't wear heels that often any more. But I do drive in them if I have to. Try to drive in flats and change them when I get there. Wedges are much easier to drive in.

@ Naboo - a lot of people say that to me as during the summer I literally live in them outside of work, but I don't think my feet and hence shoes are big enough for that to happen. There is a lot of space between the floor and the pedal.

i used to wear steeltoe caps for driving for work until i had a near miss and my boots were so wide that when i hit on the brake part of the sole hit the accelerator and i sped up rather than stopping ?

i have driven at least one time bare foot, in flip flops, in slippers, steel toe caps, in wellies and in killer heels, but this was only because, i either didn't have or couldn't be bothered to change into my trainers.?

I drive in heels, trainers, uggs, flip flops, slippers, bare feet, anything really!!

Sometimes depending on the shoe I have to move my seat back a little but thats about it!

I can drive in heels, but I notice that my foot goes on one side and I've scuffed the side of my shoe doing it

I sometimes drive in flip flops, but after a scary moment where it got bent over I do it more because I forget to change!

Snap! although I try not to drive in my favourite ones as it scuffs up the backs.

I will drive in high heels, flats, or flip flops. Strangely really dislike driving in bare feet. But I have no issues in my 5 inch platforms!

@ Naboo - it could be the kind of flipflip too? Mine are rubber but quite firm which makes them less likely to flip - I cannot wait to wear them again, I have a new box hidden in my honeymoon clothes draw upstairs! Smiley smile
