Rant! Is your Grooms father having a hired suit???

mrskay2bee, 6 May, 2011 at 22:32 Posted on Planning 0 40

Argh we've been to quite a few weddings & we can never remember the grooms father having had a suit hired with cravat etc. In laws are now "requesting" he has one!!! Is your grooms father having one??

I've been to a few weddings where both Dads have had hired suits. We've bought the two ushers, best man, groom and dads suits from M&S (£50 each!) rather than hiring them. It's your wedding though, so should be up to you who matches x

Yep, I think its pretty standard to be honest ... We need 10 suits & were payin for them. FIL2B is really miserable with £ & I've told him to get a decent pair of black shoes & he thought we should be buyin them! No way hose...

We're getting my FFIL a suit but then he's the best man! We're not having ushers so it will just be my OH and both Dads. I'm pretty sure the grooms father has been in the hired suit at most weddings I've been to- but its your wedding, you get to choose!

    Hi

we are having Groom, Best Man, Usher two dads and two grandads all in the same suit however everyone is paying for their own as they are all family members etc so for us it makes no difference to be fair!

Where the bride's father is having one it's pretty usual for the grooms father to have one too

We're hiring suits for the Groom, two Best Men, Father of Bride & Father of Groom but thats what we wanted to do and i don't think our dads were expecting it.

I think its pretty cheeky that he's requested one. I'd stick to your guns and get suits for who you wanted to.

    Morning,

Yes I will be hiring a morning suit for my FIL2B.

Im sure the FIL does also wear a morning suit to match the wedding party. All the weddings I have been to this has happened anyway. But its your day so your choice x

All the weddings I've been to have had both fathers in matching/coordinating suits. We're not having matching suits for anyone, but h2b, the ushers and both our dads are wearing the same tie which we've bought.

We wanted our dads to wear matching suits but my dad threw a strop & said he wasn't getting "dressed up like a monkey" and OH's dad passed away when he was young so he was brought up by grandparents. His granddad isn't a suity person. At the moment OH, bestman & 2 ushers are matching. Dad & granddad will wear a normal suit that they're buying themselves and we'll try to find ties in a similar colour to the cravats.

Yep, FILb2 is having the same suit as H2B, best man, my Dad and my brother. However we are only paying for H2B's, Best Mans and My dads so FILb2 and my brother will be paying for there own. We gave them the choice of hiring one the same as the other guys or wearing their own but they both said they'd like to match. Well, actually my brother said "I think I'll go with the same but I want to wait and see your final choice first because I don't want to look like a numpty" Lol- cheers bro! x

I'm lucky in that my OH bought the same suit as my brother for his wedding. So OH, my Dad and brother have matching suits. Our Bet man is borrowing a jacket from my brothers Best man and buying trousers (different waist size completely). OH isn't 100% sure that his dad will attend! He says he will, but his new partner has a habit of making him change his mind about things at the last minute (nice eh?). Ive met FIL2B once in 2 and a half years, and been let down by him 4 times. Families!!

We're trying to decide this at the moment. Ushers etc. and my dad will be in matching suits but OH's dad has said he doesn't mind either way. Just not sure if it'll look odd in the photos if he looks different.

I think it Depends. If your just having groom and best man then no but my honest opinion is if the father of the bride is having one then the father of the groom should be treated the same.

We are not having matching suits at all - there didn't seem to be any point seeing as my dad will be in a kilt and FIL2b will be in an alb.... it is upto you and your h2b and what suits your day?

We must be in the minority then as my FIL won't be wearing a matching suit. To be honest, I wasn't aware this was the 'done' thing for most weddings. My parents never mentioned it and neither has anyone else including him, he did ask about his son (BMs suit) and he never mentioned about him trying one on aswell.

He wears a suit every day for work so I know he'll wear one anyway at the wedding and I also think he wouldn't wanna wear all the 'get up' so for us he'd feel more comfortable wearing a suit of his own.

So for us for everyone to feel comfortable he will wear his own suit, not a matching one.

We are only hiring suits for the groom, best man and usher. The Dads are wearing their own suits as wearing the hired stuff isn't really them, and I'd rather they were comfortable.

We are having everyone in the same suits. Both fathers, my brother (guest usher) and best man are just having ivory ties and waitcoats, where as h2b and my 11 and 5 yr old sons will be having pink ties with silver waistcoat (both the boys dont like the idea of pink though lol) x

I am the same as the majority on here! Both our fathers will have hired suits as will the usher, best man, grooms man and page boy. All the weddings i have been to have had a similar sort of format for wedding attire.

My FIL2B will be having a hired suit like the rest of the men in the bridal party. I've never seen them wear anything different to be honest.

I completely agree with this. You will all be one family at the end of the day so if one has a matching suit the other should too unless there is some good reason behind it (one dad being difficult, etc). It also really bothers me when people assume my MIL2B does not have as important a role in the day as my mother... of course she does, Mother of the Groom and Mother of the Bride are equally important roles in my eyes, both are mothers to someone getting married!

No-one is having matching suits at our wedding. OH is buying a new one as he didn't want to hire and needs a new one anyhow. BM, my dad, FIL, my brothers are all sorting out their own - buying new if they wish to or wearing what they have.

I think if your dad is having a hired suit your oH's dad should too, but it's up to you and your OH at the end of the day. I have seen all types of combinations at weddings I have been to..

I htink it is really down to personal preference. OH and teh ushers were in tails which would have made my dad look ridiculous so once OH had decided what he was wearing i laid down the law that neither father would be wearing tails. Instead they each chose a grey suit and pink tie that they felt comfortable in and looked good in. In the end OH dad did hire his but it was not the same as the ushers.

My FIL had the same suit as my H, my Dad and the BM. OH wasn't bothered about his dad having one as their not close but i insisted!! The pgoto's would have looked odd if the dad's weren't in the same suit, ha ha!!

Yes, groom's dad is having a matching hired suit. He didn't seem to fussed whether he did or not, it was our decision that he should.

If OH's dad was still with us he would definitely have been wearing one-my personal opinion is if my dad is, then why shouldn't his, but it's your day and entirely up to you. If they are offering to pay for it, I would just let him and not let it become an issue (there will be plenty more things to stress about i'm sure!) However, I recently went to a wedding where neither father wore the matching suits and each just wore their own suits, ties, etc but I think it's nice when the dads look part of it all!

I would say it depends entirely on how matching and formal you want your do to be. I wouldn't feel pressured to do anything due to convention tho, particularly if you are trying to stick to a budget. Do it your way! I think it does seem a little cheeky of him to ask to be honest.
