Reply cards...Yes or No?

debs1701, 21 January, 2010 at 21:33 Posted on Planning 0 14

Just going through the process of ordering my invites ans was wondering if I should bother with reply cards, since I'm not making mine I am trying to decide if I should get them or not. Do guests like going out and choosing their RSVP card, do they think it's too much hassle to buy their own or should I include them with the invite?

Thanks for your help ?

We've decided not to include reply cards. The main reason is that I look forward to getting different cards in reply. Its also I less thing to spend money on as our costs seem to be spiralling out of control!

We are making our own invites and funny enough were just discussing this! We have decided to no provide them as this would be extra cost and work for us. We also think it will be nicer to receive personalised replies and are also allowing guests to RSVP through our wedding website and our facebook group.

To go against the grain, I am providing RSVP's!

    1) Even I kept forgetting to pop out and get a card for my friends wedding and I know what it will feel like to be waiting for replies.

    2) I am impatient and don't want to wait for the replies!

    3) 100 cost me £13 on ebay including return envelopes with return address printed on so for that price in my mind it was worth it.

We had them included as well as an email address. I made my own so it wasn't that much more hassle than not to have them, found some bargain little envelopes as well. I still can't believe we actually got them out - those invites were so much more work then I thought - took FOREVER! so far got 1 rsvp by post and one by email.

We didn't send them for a couple of reason that have already been mentioned....

    To keep costs down

I like all the different cards coming through which are all up in my living room at the moment

Also, like Zippy, we've set up the RSVP part on our website for guests to use.

I think its nice to receive all manner of different RSVP cards in the post. You may come across some guests that might forget and not respond and need chasing up. Although we had our invites printed the reply cards were going to cost extra and having spent £60.00 on the invites alone we thought no.... people can RSVP themselves. It takes no effort to walk into a card shop and most supermarkets sell cards now anyway! Like I said some folk will forget and some may chose to email or text their RSVP these days anyway.

Just to add - if you are sending a reply card in an addressed envelope then it would be usual to put a stamp on as well, and this is where I felt the cost would rise.

We did provide them, stamps and all. Although it is barely any effort to pick up an rsvp card and send it to you, to my embarrasment I have been one of those who have not RSVP'd through sheer business and forgetfulness. I never seemed to have time to make a special trip to get a card and any time I was around places I could get cards there was something else on my mind and it just didn't enter my head. As a result of having had to be chased up I decided that we should put RSVPs in with the invitations, that way the guest could just grab a pen, tick the box, put the card in the envelope and send it back with no hassle whatsoever. It also made clear that we wanted replies to say you weren't coming as well as those to say you were.

That said, we still had a number of people didn't send them back and had to be chased so you may feel it's not worth it, particularly if you have a big guest list.

Oh and 22tango - I feel your pain, I was running hard up against a deadline for invites, they took soooooo much longer than I had anticipated!

I do like the idea of putting an e-mail addie on the invites but unfortunatelyt my aunts and uncles are really part of the older generation who don't have computers, I know it would be easy enough for my cousins to reply for them but what if they don't reply, it would mean still chasing them and wondering which of them can or cannot come ☹️

I'm sending my invites out 3 months before the wedding with the RSVP date 6 weeks before so that should give me plenty of time to chase up the few that haven;t bothered their backside letting me know either way ?

I'm one of those worrying people that need physical confirmation, so I'm sending out RSVP cards with stamped pre-written envelopes.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm hoping it'll save me some of the worry anyway!

You know I went to buy a rsvp card today for my friends wedding. I was only in tesco's but I was disapointed to see there were only 2 different ones & they were both a bit naff. So maybe waiting to get a lot of different ones isn't really gonna happen!! (I actually bought a congratulations card in the end!)
