Retro Sweets

Panjita, 2 May, 2012 at 15:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

I'm craving these:

What are your favourite retro sweets? Did anyone else used to have Kop Kops? I was shocked to discover they've never heard of them in Brum.

I've just chucked a big bag of those away. Nobody was interested in them in our house.

I LOVE pint pots, and strawberry milkshakes. A new sweet shop has opened in my hometown, which sells both of these, for £1 a bag, I spend a small fortune in there.

These too, but they no longer taste the same. I also used to like the golf ball bubblegum.

I love kop kops! Saspirella tablets too, and strawberry bon bons although they are tricky as they get stuck in your teeth. Mmm pear drops.

Used to love Midget Gems when Lyons made them. Maynards took them over and they are NOT the same. They taste like any other gummy sweet

We used to have a retro sweet day at my old work. We would all bring in most of the above plus other things such as Tunnocks wafers and teackes, Blue Ribands, Wagon Wheels, Clubs, pink wafers etc.

    Was a good day.

    Yes to these!

I used to be quite partial to the odd Dib Dab

Plus, however boring it may be, I do love cola bottles!

You lot will love this place then! https://www.aquarterof.co.uk/

I miss being able to buy 'a quarter of' sweets. I went into one of those Mr Simms sweet shops a few months ago and asked for a quarter of sour raspberries - they didn't know how much I meant ?

These little beauties are amazing (and explosively sour, makes my mouth water just thinking about them!):

I love kola kubes! An old fashioned sweet shop has just opened literally around the corner from me and I will be going there on my way home from work. They even have a penny sweet section!!

I love rhubarb and custard and those sweets that we called 'rosey apples' but sometimes when I say this people look at me a bit strange and don't know what I'm talking about!

ETA I think rosey apples are the same as traffic light lollipops

As well as shrimps I used to love all of these, as sold to us by the ice cream van man that used to come into school at lunch time. I later realised all the other kids were buying cigs off him (and probably worse) but I was quite happy with my fix of sugary goodness.

Loved rosey apples, and was so excited recently in York, when I found an old style sweet shop and bought a quarter or rosey apples and a quarter of strawberries and cream. Best road trip sweets ever!

Completely these! There's a small shop in Wood Green which sells these and I always have to fill my pick'n'mix bag with them when I go past!

    Also, Parma Violets Smiley laugh
