Runners - present help (sorry)

R-A, 8 December, 2008 at 10:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

Sorry to ask, but I don't know any other runners IRL...

OH has taken it up in the last couple of months. Has good trainers but no other 'gear'. Need inspiration for stocking type pressies so up to about £25 would be good. Was thinking of maybe a good book with advice, technique etc, or any gizmos e.g. heart rate monitor/pedometer. If If anyone could suggest any cheapish but useful things that'd be great.

TIA ?

Once you start accumulating running kit it is impossible to stop!

Socks, socks and socks - good running socks cost about 8 a pair and you can never have too many - the Falke ones are fab

An armband thingy for his iPod - Nike make the best ones, they're about #20

Gloves and a hat - a must in this weather

A waterproof gilet thing - I got one last week at Lillywhites for £9

A doughnut-shaped water bottle that you can carry with you running

A wrist wallet or bumbag thing for carrying stuff

    HTH ?

All of Sophie's are excellent suggestions. If he doesn't have any proper running stuff then a decent wicking top is always a good move.

Some good books also help. The Lore of Running by Tim Noakes is a fantastic book and if he is a running geek like me he will spend hours immersed in it. Another not as techy book which is great is 'What I talk about when I talk about running' by haruki Murakami

Another thing to buy but it doesn't make a very nice christamas pressie...in fact get it for him now! is an ICE tag. http://www.roadid.com/Common/default.aspx?referrer=4252&gclid=CMGb86LrsJcCFR2zEAodsAxPjg

I was given a Nike+ gadget - you attach to your shoe and the other half to your Ipod and it tracks your run and you can download to the Nike+ site. You get Lance Armstong or other people saying things like "well done, that your fastest mile so far"!

I found it motivational to be able to see my runs on screen, with all the speed variations etc. It is sold as if you can only use it in Nike shoes, but if you attach it to your laces with Velcro then it works with any running shoe.
