Scared!

flowersinherhair, 8 May, 2013 at 21:47 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

I know I'm being a bit wet but there are black clouds out tonight (even before it went properly dark). I haven't seen clouds look this dark before and it's scaring me as I hate storms. Have checked online weather until live weather is on at 10pm but no warnings are coming up so far.

Are you scared of thunder? I'm a bit scared of it. I'm ok unless I am on my own.

I'm a pretty scared of thunder but terrified of lightning after I saw a person after they were struck by lightning. Thank god it's not just me!

Oh really! How awful. Mine seems a bit trivial now as I'm just scared because it makes me think of horror films.

if its any consolation we were forecast thunder here but there was nothing.

Yeah was pretty scared of storms before, but after that Smiley surprise

Ooh I know what you mean about horror films too, a storm is always when something really horrible happens!

Ah really? That's good, hope it's the same here! Thanks for the reassurance.

    Did the person die?!

I'm not frightened of storms if I'm in the house. I don't like being in a car during them though.

I quite like storms. I don't know why because I'm the world's biggest wuss when it comes to everything else!

I like a good storm when I am tucked up safe and warm, the wind and rain battering against the windows! But then I feel *** when thinking about people who might be out in it Smiley sad

If you feel like you're about to get struck (apparently your hair stands on end), bend over at the waist and get your head as low to the ground as possible (but not touching the ground). A direct hit will travel down your legs and miss your vital parts.

Good job I'm still quite flexible then! ?

It's also a good job there was no one walking past my office when I've just given that a go!

I thought I might have been the only one that tried this. Wanted to double check I would be okay if I was about to get struck by lightening!

I've not tried it, but know I'd not manage it so I'd be toast!

This thread is so cute!! ☂️ ⛈

(Not cute that you saw someone actually hit by lightning though. Yowch.)

I bet you'd never be able to take a dump in the same way again, though. ?

I'm not overly flexible so I might have to go for the second best method: Arch forward and place your hands on your knees. Then if the lightning hits you, it should bypass your internal organs (head to arms, to lower legs to ground), which might save your life. It won't bypass your brain though....

Isn't a car the safest place to be in a thunderstorm inthat if hit by ligtning, it passes round the metal shell of the car and misses the occupants? Do I recall Richard Hammond trying this out on telly or is this wishful thinking?

I was once caught in a storm at the top of our church tower. which is on the only hill for miles around!

It was at my old work, she had horrific injuries but as far as I can remember she started to get better. Still put me off storms for life though...

Well, it might not be THE safest but it is (usually) VERY safe.

A car acts like a "Faraday cage" (where it passes around the metal shell....as you said).

Believe it or not after all that, nothing happened, not even any heavy rain this morning as forecast, weird!
