Should BMs have a hair trial?

xKellsBellsx, 3 October, 2012 at 13:18 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi all, is it normal procedure for your bridesmaids to have a hair trial? My future SIL expects one, which is fine, but I have 3 other BMs and I'm worried about the potential cost. Any experiences would be greatly welcomed.

I would say no, it isn´t usual, especially where you have more than one BM. If any of them really want one, then I would politely say that they will have to pay for it themselves.

My bridesmaids aren't, I couldn't afford to pay for them just to have their hair done though. My hairdresser is one of my best friends and I trust her completely and know she'll do a fab job so I'm not bothered. I'm going to have a couple of goes with my hair but only as part of my usual appointments in the run up.

No definitely not. That would cost a fortune. I agree with Chloe_chloe, politely tell them they will have to pay for their own trial. that's what happened when I was bridesmaid this year & is what I will say to mine.

No I don't think it's normal. I'm of the view that I'm paying enough for their hair and make-up to be done on the day that I'm not paying extra for a trial for them! x

I often see bridesmaids turning up with photographs on the day of what they want they want their hair to look like, maybe shots from magazines etc. No need to have a full trial though...

I agree with the rest, if they want one then they can pay for it themselves.

I wouldn't pay for a trial, but then I didn't pay for hair on the day either. Tell her she needs to pay for herself if she even needs one. What do the other 3 think?

LOL I didn't even have a hair trial for me! I agreed with both hairdressers (one for the wedding day, one for the reception day) that I'd show them pictures of styles I wanted, they would copy them, and leave plenty of time if the style needed changing or playing about with a little.

I've also been a BM 3 times as an adult, and never had my hair professionally done, or expected it, for that matter.

I've only got one bridesmaid (my sister) and I'm paying for her to have a trial when I have mine. To be honest, it's mainly because she'll have not long had a baby and will probably enjoy a bit of a pampering! We'll also probably go out with our new hairdos! I didn't realise that wasn't the done thing... Oh well...

My ma suggested a lovely idea for me yesterday- her mates daughter is a hairdresser and her mate a beautician/make up lady so she is thinking of hiring them one evening for me, ma and 2 bridesmaids to have a bit of a lesson / trial / general muck around. So hopefully we can just do each other on the day! hehe.

Thought this was quite nice, tho it will probably mean we will want to hire them for the day but will remain strong- plus gettting married over an hour from home so would cost too much to bring them with us!

I'm not sure what's usual, but I didn't pay for BMs to have a trial, and in fact, they sorted their own hair for the actual wedding as we were on a tight budget.

Oh, interesting! I'd assumed they mostly did have a trial... and I'm booked in with my two bridesmaids to have one soon. My hairdresser doesn't charge a lot, and I want us to have a trial run to be sure we've got a style that we're happy with, and to know how long it'll take on the day...

Mine arent having a trial, we cant afford it for a start and because they both live a distance away, one more so than others, it would just be too far for them to travel for just a hair appointment.

I have had one trial already to make sure I was happy before I booked, the second will be to go over things again a bit closer to the wedding.

I was a BM and had no trial.

Thanks everyone! I've spoken to my own sister and she doesn't want a trial, and the other 2 are really chilled out, so I think they'll be OK!

You've all been wonderful help :-)

    Hiya

Surely the wedding is costing enough without paying for your 4 Bridesmaids to have a trial?

I would say to them all if they wanted a trial they need to pay for themselves if your paying for the hair on the day!

Personally I have friends doing my hair and makeup and I have said to my 3 Bridesmaid they are welcome to use them but they will have to pay as I am paying for there dresses!

    Smiley smile
