Should she replace it - or shall I shoot her

Mrs JMP, 2 May, 2008 at 16:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

MIL - turned up today, as I was popping over the High Street

Bag in kitchen with clothes for dry-cleaning man to take tonight, as he does every Friday.

MIL - washes clothes in machine, likes to busy.

I come home.

Nicole Fahri Alpaca jumper bought by MrJMP for Easter - now fits my 10 mth old, snug.

Ask her to replace it, then shoot her.

I think throttling would be more satisfying than shooting. Lasts longer.

? I would be absolutely LIVID!! The least she can do is apologise and then offer to refund you the value of the clothes she's ruined. I mean, who would wash other people's clothes without even checking the labels on them?! ☹️!]

She should apologise, replace it and then you should strangle her.

    Has she noticed?

    Would house insurance cover it?

She probably thought she was helping [:I]....having said that I would still go down the 'getting her pay for it then bury her under the patio' route

Now y'see I think you should just chalk it up to experience.

(I may or may not have recently machine dyed a set of vintage shirts and omitted to run bleach through the machine after. Some of my family may or may not now have wardobes which consist primarily of various shades of khaki.)id="size1">

? And you haven't already killed her?

I think she should at least offer to buy you another one.

Mind you, I did shrink a Hobbs wool & silk jumper in the washine machine a few months ago, not realising it was said jumper. I'd be lucky if it fitted a 3yr old now!

See, im on the other side here.
The way I see it, she thought she was doing you a favour and it was an accident after all. An expensive one, but still an accident.[:I]

Accident or not, I would still expect them to be replaced
if someone took it unto themselves to do something like this with other peoples clothing then I would expect any reasonable person to show at least enough care to check the labels

I agree with mrsjkn. it was an accident.

if its that big a deal, claim on your insurance. it would be extremly snippy to ask her to replace it, in fact she ll be feeling bad enough anyway, it would just make it worse.

Try and look on the bright side at least you have the best dressed 10 month old around? I'd be upset too but she did have the best intentions

Can she Knit? They sell Alpaca Wool just a few doors down from me. Or even better they are selling actual Alpacas you could have her shear one, card and spin the wool then knit you a new jumper!

(I know you feel cross but it is only a jumper and although expensive no one has died (yet))

    Ugh what a nightmare!

If it was my MIL I'm afraid I'd be tempted to whinge until she coughed up. ? but then she has been told constantly to leave our house alone ?

I've always been very protective about my clothing (I don't have much that fits me at the moment either)
I refused to let me mum wash any of my clothes from about the age of 10, she used to shrink or dye everything
