On the gettting to know you thread there are mentions of lots of pets belonging to a few newish posters so I thought it was time we had another pet flash thread!! She's well known but for the newbies (and because I'm an obsessed mummy) Here's the most recent pic of my girl:

    Waaa I love Poppy Pig!

Does she live more or less like a dog, is she toilet trained etc? How long do pigs live for?

I bought a collar for Penny from a lady who makes them, she also does harnesses that are custom sized, so perhaps that would be an idea if someone nearer you also made them?

She is totally awesome! Yes, it is basically like living with a really big, really greedy and really clever dog. We got her as a weaner at 8 weeks old from a guy who breeds pigs for meat, so she had not lived indoors from birth. We had her fully toilet trained within a week of us bringing her home. She lives in the house mostly, and sleeps in a dog bed at the bottom of our bed. At 6am every morning she comes down to my side of the bed to wake me up and I take her out for a wee and her breakfast. The rest of the day she comes and goes as she pleases. She learned to open our back door from the inside so if we leave her indoors she'll let herself out to do her business in the garden.

She answers to her name, comes when we call, will sit on command. She loves music, and will wag her tail in time to the beat of songs she especially likes. We had to fit a lock onto our fridge because the little bugger learned to open it! When she was little she would walk on the lead and we used to take her to the beach, she used to swim in the sea. She's too big to go in the car now, so we can't get her to the beach and she won't walk too far anyway, but we take her for a walk up the road and she'll walk to heel.

She's 20 months old now and fully grown, pigs live to around 12-14 years old.

Oh my god, I actually can't cope with how cute Peppa is. I love bichon frises.

I LOVE Poppy Pig as well, I've always wanted a pet pig! Think I would have to give up bacon sandwiches though.

I always wanted a pet pig, ever since I read 'The Sheep Pig' as a kid. My childhood bedroom was always full of piggy pictures and ornaments, but I never thought I'd have a real one, mainly because I get severe asthmatic reactions to fur and feathers and have had anaphylactic reactions to dog and cat saliva so I was resigned to never having a pet I could cuddle (we had fish but it wasn't quite the same!). Then I read an article about a blind woman who had a seeing-eye pig because she was allergic to dogs. It said that pig hair and skin is genetically very similar to human so is hypo-allergenic to people with dander allergies. So we found a breeder, and did a few allergy experiments with Poppys pig-mummy and when we found out I wasn't allergic that was it, decision made!

Haha was yours a bleeding nightmare too? We keep telling him it's a good job he's handsome. Ha.

To be fair to him, he's perfect in most ways but he really really hates dogs when he's out on his walks.

They do have bucket loads of personality though, don't they?

Haha yes so much personality! She was a nightmare at times especially out walks haha.

Very hyper and always wanted over to other dogs, looked like she was taking us a walk most of the time!

So comical as well though & they're so loving, we only had ours til she was about 5 as she was so ill, took fits & had numerous skin conditions and gaining so much weight on her medication it was kinder to have her put to sleep. Took us years to get over it and even consider getting another dog.

She was a softie but I remember taking her out a walk one night and she seen a fox and almost dragged me off my feet trying to get to it haha, feisty when they want to be Smiley smile I'd love another patterdale someday though!
