Showering, a couple of questions.

WelshTotty, 15 August, 2008 at 09:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 54

Talking to my friend int he car on the way to work this morning we got chatting about showering and how long we take to have a shower. I take 20-30 minutes in the shower and have a routine, she took 30-45 minutes and also had a routine. Her H and my H take no more than 5 mins if that.

We then got onto the direction we faced when in the shower, we both face away from the shower head so shampoo could run down our backs when getting rinsed off, but we found our H's face the shower head and always get shampoo in their faces when rinsing.

It got us thinking, do women usually have a routine and take a long time in the shower, and do men generally face the shower head?

So questions.

How long to you take in the shower? and do you have a routine?

How long does your H / OH take in the shower? and does he face the shower head or not?

Wierdly dull I know but I need to know!

Ta

I take the minimum time it takes to wash and condition my hair and wash my body. And defuzz, if it's shave time ?. Although when I was exercising regularly, I would take longer as I loved the feeling of shower on tired body.

H takes ages. He loves it.

We both face away from the shower, although it depends on the shower for H as he doesn't always fit in them heightwise in which case he showers however he bests fits.

If I'm washing my hair, it can be 20 minutes - If not about 10 minutes.

I always stand facing the shower and always wash my right arm first, then my left, then my torso, and work down. I tried washing my left arm first once, and it just felt "wrong"!

I don't have showers very often but I take as long as I can - probably 20 minutes is my max, but it depends on how the kids are behaving as to how long I take. I dont have a routine though, but I do face away from the shower when rinsing my hair.

Hmmmm not sure how long my H takes - he generally has baths too (our shower isn't a very good one) - I'll ask him when he gets home which way he faces - I think he does a bit of both.

Gosh, half an hour sounds a long time to me let alone 45 minutes - your friend must be like a prune when she comes out! On a normal working day if I wash my hair it takes me about 10 minutes to shower. If I'm shaving, deep conditioning hair etc it could take 20-25 minutes at a push. What does your friend find to do in there for 45 minutes??

I have a routine and probably take about 10 mins tops, when washing body I face the shower, when washing hair I face away from shower as you say to make the suds run down my back and not in to my face.

H takes about 5 mins and stands completely under the shower head so shampoo goes all over his face but then he uses that to wash his beard so it all works anyway. I couldn't do that, I'd feel like I was drowning!

Well, our shower is a bit on the fritz at the min so my routine at the moment is turn hot water tap on in bath for several mins, then turn off and turn on shower, get under for about two mins before it runs cold again, and repeat from the beginning!

In more usual circumstances I would say I spend approx 15/20 mins in the shower and face away from shower head, and yes, do have a routine. My H spends 5 mins and he makes me laugh cos he goes right under the shower head even when he puts his shampoo on so most of it just runs straight off without making a lather. It also goes over his face but he is sort of side on, rather than facing the shower head.

Usually takes me about 10 mins. Get in, wash hair, defuzz (I can't do my legs in the shower very well though as with my glasses off I usually miss patches!), scrub body, rinse, get out.

10 mins tops to do everything...hair wash and shave. My husband is in there way longer than me and it drives me mad....such a waste of water and electric.

I take an advert break in a morning (3 mins?) and about 5 mins on an evening. I don't see the need to just stand there for hours! 45 minutes in the shower?? Routine - erm.. morning -wash and go! evening - wash, scrub, hair, shave legs, go!

H takes about 10 minutes in an evening and I haven't got a clue what his routine is or which way he faces ? I still can't ger over spending 45 minutes in the shower..surely a bath would be more economical?

BGB, I only shower twice a week as it dries my skin too much and affects the eczema I have all over my back so my gas/electric bill is ok ta lol

10-15 mins for me unless I'm defuzzing my legs, in which case 15-20. I face away from the shower except when washing my face... H takes about 5 mins and does face the shower head usually, interesting!

About 5 minutes I think, even including a hairwash. If I am defuzzing legs then I fill the sink and do that from there after I have showered.

Mr P takes forever in a shower I keep trying to get him to trim it down a lot but he just can't seem to. Most irritating.

About 10 mins, including washing hair (twice), conditioning etc. Was longer when my hair was longer, as it's thick and is a pita to rinse. Face towards shower at first, then away once I start washing my hair.

R takes 5 mins, faces towards shower.

I'm usually in the shower for between 5 and 10 mins each morning, which includes washing all over (with a bath net/scrunchie thing) and shaving bits in need of shaving. If i'm washing my hair i'll be closer to 10 mins than 5. I face away from the shower head so shampoo etc washes down my back rather than over my face.

Mr Dooby is usually in the shower about 10 mins (wash all over and hair wash each morning) i think he spends a fair few mins in there just trying to wake up. I'm not sure which way he faces.

In all i get up at 7.15ish and manage to shower, wash face, sort hair, get dressed, do make up and get downstairs to make my breakfast no later than 7.45. Half hour for the whole lot tops.

Ah yes, the hangover shower (which is the same a migraine shower for me). Do you stand there immobile with full power and have the water as hot as you can stand it in the hope of steaming all the toxins out? ?

I generally take 10-15 minutes in the morning – shampoo, conditioner, face wash and body wash. I tend to shave my legs at the bathroom sink, as it’s much easier to see what I’m doing.

I've never timed myself in the shower ?

I am guessing 25 mins if I am doing hair wash, 5-10 if not doing hair.

I take about 5 minutes, unless I'm washing hair / shaving legs in which case about 10 minutes. I don't have a particular routine - just wash all over with shower gel using one of those shower puff things (come to think of it I do tend to wash myself in the same order every day - face, shoulders, arms, tummy, back, legs, feet, bum!).

Mr Caterpillar goes in for ages - about 25 minutes. Sometimes I swear he's asleep standing up in there!

I stand facing away from the shower (water going down my back) if I'm washing my hair and facing towards the shower if I don't want to wash my hair, as it's a devil to dry so I try to keep it as dry as possible. Mr Caterpillar faces the shower I think.

We don't have a proper shower, just a mixer tap with shower head. I spend approx. 5-10 minutes in the shower, maybe up to 15 if I'm shaving my legs (although I tend to have a bath if I'm doing this).

I can't leave the shower attachment on the wall as the water would run down the tiles and leak under the bath, causing our kitchen ceiling to collapse. Hence I face whichever way is best to stop water splashing on the tiles. I usually end up facing the side wall as the water then hits the shower curtain so neither front nor back I'm afraid.

It's all luxury in our house ?

5 minutes max. (wonders what takes so long)

I face the water as I like it splahing on my face, though I rise the shampoo over my back still by standing closer to the shower head and leaning back.

I tend to de-fuzz in the bath rather than the shower though... but then that would only take a few minutes more.

Our shower at home is rubbish and the water is a private supply pumped from near a peat bog so doesn't look very nice sometimes so at home I'll take 5 mins if not washing hair or 15 if washing hair. OH take about 10-15 mins.

However, if I'm using the lovely showers at work I take AAAAAGES because it feels so lovely!!

How long to you take in the shower? and do you have a routine?

I take about 5 mins, sometimes bit longer at night but its so quick in the morning. I have a routine and do the same stuff every time!

I don't like water on my face so i too face away from the shower.

How long does your H / OH take in the shower? and does he face the shower head or not

H takes bout the same and goes anyway so the water goes everywhere.

We have a clock radio thing in our shower so I know that I take approximately 8 minutes!!

I start facing the shower, then turn my back to wet my hair. I then put shampoo on my hair and face teh shower again while I wash my upper body. I trun away from the shower and rinse my hair, put conditioner on it, wash lower body, rinse hair and I'm done.

Slightly longer if I shave my legs. And if I have a migraine I stand with my head under the shower at full power for at least 10 minutes.

I take about 5 mins if I'm not washing my hair, 15 if I am and 20 for 'the works' (defuzz, exfoliate etc). I face the shower when I first get in and then turn round after a few minutes.

The shower is probably my H's favourite place! He often sits or lies down (shower over the bath) and has been known to drop off in the shower. If we are away and there is a particularly good shower, I have to give him 5 minutes countdowns to when he needs to get out, otherwise he'd have a good 30-40 minutes (doing nothing as far as I can tell). He seems to lose all sense of time and his idea of a quick shower is 10min+ wheras I can be in and out in about 2 mins if I need to.

15 mins normally, 20 if I'm shaving my legs. And oh, yes, do I have a routine. It's very important, or else I'd forget something, particularly in the morning ?

    Wash face with face wash.

    Wash hair.

Condition hair, comb conditioner through, leave on.

    (every other day) defuzz armpits.

    (every 3 days) shave legs.

sponge, shower gel, wash all over, starting at the top and working down.

turn sponge over to exfoliation side and exfoliate knees, elbows and feet.

    Rinse hair.

    Rinse body.

Get out. Realise am late for work. Vow to get up earlier tomorrow.

Et voila! Oh, and for the forwards / backwards q - I think I turn slowly, like I'm on a spit ?

I take about 15 minutes in the shower and thats with washing and conditioning my hair, defuzzing etc. I face the shower as I also wash my face under the shower. I normally tip my head upside down under the shower when I'm washing my hair.

I take about 20 minutes in the shower and H takes about 10, but then I have more to do. I face the shower to wash my body and then shampoo and rinse out my hair facing away. Then I put conditioner on. I leave the conditioner on for about 4 minutes and while I'm doing this I shhave my legs and underarms and wash my face with face wash. I then rinse the conditioner out and then sometimes use the chiropody sponge on my feet (balancing on one leg!).

H faces into the shower. He has very little hair to wash and doesn't use conditioner. He also doesn't shave his legs like I do (obviously) but sometimes shaves his chest and then his shower will take a little longer.
