Skin problems

louisepalmer79, 4 May, 2011 at 15:39 Posted on Planning 0 33

Okay, I have one month to go and seem to keep getting lots of little spots on my chin! I've been to the dr and they say they're probably stress related as opposed to diet etc. Hmm, not much I can do about that then as work is hectic and plannig a wedding isn't exactly a walk in the park either ?

So, can anyone recommend a nightcream and daily moisturiser which may help clear this up? I don't mind too much about cost at this point and usually use Clinique.

Thanks!

I'm going to keep an eager eye on this post, as I always have little pimples on my chin and jawline...

One thing I've just started using (not a moisturiser though I'm afraid) is No 7 Microdermabrasion (think its called Total Renew), which has helped loads in making them less prominent and generally smoother skin.

Other than that, I use Simple day moisturiser and Palmers Cocoa butter. But since I still get the pimples with them I'm not sure I should recommend them! They do make my skin really soft though...

The Elemis Skin Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules are really good (they are a two step process which you use in line with you usual skin routine) but your skin WILL get worse before it gets better.

This close to your wedding, I wouldn't recommend a whole new routine because it might make the problem worse, so trying something new in conjunction with your current products is the best bet. "little spots" could end up being "problem acne".

Other than, could you afford a facial once a week until the big day? That could help.

For me it's all about having a strict, twice a day, 3 set plan.

I'm a Liz Earle convert - I adore the whole range. I use her cleanse and polish, toner, moisturers, spot on treatment, superclean mask and brightening mask and my skin is a lot better than it's ever been, not great, but much better!

Hmm, good point! I've just bought Dermalogica's microexfoliant powder to try and make my skin 'glow' so shall keep an eye on this to make sure it doesn't cause any problems. I did have a facial last week and this week I have spots so am now a little worries by the thought of them!! Maybe I shall try one more this weekend and see if they have a calming facial instead?

I thought an overnight cream/mask could be quite good and I shall do my best to not touch my face etc too.

Maybe I should go to the teenage counter section in boots and see what creams they have for acne skin....?

If you just want the spots you have to go, then, as weird as it sounds, plaster yourself with Sudocream overnight - you'll be much better by the morning.

Are they proper little spots? Or little blistery whiteheads? I only ask because I get at least one a day (we are talking tiny pinprick sized white bubbles than literally go when I scratch my nail on them - sorry if that's too gross) on either side of my nose, which I have tracked to the wearing of plastic-rimmed glasses and blocking of pores. Do you lean your chin on your hand much during the day? Anyway. mine have improved since I started using Clinique face scrub once a week and Estee Lauder pore refiner (Idealist) every day.

I'm not sure if your GP would be prepared to give you a treatment for what sounds like a minor skin complaint, but I suppose it's worth asking if you are that worried?

A lot of facials cause spots, but then sort your skin out in the long run. Like the greater good, or something. I'm not a beautician though, I only have basic knowledge of skin that I pick up through my job. Maybe it wasn't the right type of facial?

They seem to be little bumps and when I mess with them too much, they become big, ugly, sore red bumps - so not spots as such.....

I shall try sudocrem as that's a cheap, easy to throw away if it doesn't work option ?

Although the Estee Lauder product sounds promising too. I might see if I can get a sample and check it's not too heavy for my skin 1st.....

And yes, I do touch my face a lot during the day as I have a tendancy to lean on my hand whilst working.

Apirin mask. Crush some normal aspirin (not the dispersible ones) and add a little water. Paste it on the skin and leave 20 mins or longer. Then rinse off, you can exfoliate a little (the paste is quite a scratchy feeling) Apirin contains salicyclic (sp) acid and will take the redness out and get rid of the spots!

OMG- I bought some Philosophy serum that was basically just salicycli acid and it really worked, but it cost a fortune! I had no idea I could replicate the idea with aspirin. Cheers for the tip!

Having 1 month left, I think Liz Earle would be a good investment! I used to have really bad acne and have tried many brands. The acne just don't go til I'm 27! I only started off using Liz Earle last year, my acne was much better then due to "aging" but it definately clears it up.

I've read reviews of people with bad acne using Liz Earle and there's definately very huge improvement. If budget is a problem, use only the cleanser.

    No worries Jez!

I am 38 and since I hit 30 my chin and cheeks have been just awful. Mine is hormonal but Apirin masks really work (plus it costs buttons too, its about 15p a box of aspirin!)

Once I fell asleep with an AM on and in the morning my blackheads had literally dissolved!?

    Hope it works for you!

I was going to say Witch do a spot treatment, but i'm now tempted to try this Asprin mask! Is there a specific make of Asprin (like anadin) or can i use something like boots own brand?

I just use Adsa's own brand! Its nice to use something as cheap as that because I think us ladies shell out way too much for skin stuff!

Make sure though that its the normal kind and not the dissolvable ones you use. I sometimes crush them between two spoons or I steal my OH's pestle and mortar. You need to play about with however many you need depending on the size of the area you are putting it on (ie full face or just chin etc)

The skin treatments that work for acne work because of the salicyclic acid and thats pretty much all aspirin is! Smiley laugh

I agree! I used to use Clarins, but am now using No 7. How often would you recommend using the mask? and at the risk of sounding silly, does it have to be asprin, or can it be paracetamol? (i could never decide if they were different or the same ? )

I just use it when my skin is bad, it takes the redness out.

Like Enterflora says there are loads of great threads about AM so I think people try it and see how they go, I would say once a week to start but some people do it more.

Has to be aspirin not paracetamol because its the salicyclic acid that works

It won't make it worse. It might feel a little dry afterwards sometimes but be careful what moisturiser you use (non-comodegenic) or you will be going round in circles!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Silly question, but how do you know if a moisturiser is non-comodegenic? Will it say on the pot or do you have to look at the ingredients to know?

Ditto! My skin is still a bit of a nightmare (although mildly less awful than last month) and I can't afford to invest in Liz Earle stuff. I'm not tooooooo worried because the A-Mazing foundation my make-up lady used at my trial covered everything up and made my skin look wonderful. But it would be nice in general not to look like a greasy teenager anymore*

*I read somewhere that adult acne is totally different to teenage acne, so many of the products aimed at teens won't help us. Woe.

RKB - you made me laugh. I now have images of you cracking open a Nurofen capsule over your face. "But someone said it was some kind of painkiller, can't remember which one, this'll do". Sorry, not a serious piss take, just cute.

DEF agree. It dries them out so quick and they will go away, but ive only done it on random spots (got one on my fore head yesterday!!) as its quite thick so couldn't cream your whole face in it!

Also, meant to add earlier but forgot. Fluoride toothpaste can cause perioral acne so stop dribbling when you brush your teeth.

Hehe, there are some great comments on this thread now!! I've tried using savalon and that's helping so far but shall def buy some sudocrem this weekend alongside the Liz Earle face cleanser. I might try and the aspirin trick on my next breakout (assuming it's not too close to the wedding day....I know dry skin can be a problem when covering spots with make up).

I am also doing my BEST not to touch my face or fiddle with my skin at all to avoid spreading the bacteria.

I have had very oily skin (loads of blackheads and spots) for my whole life. As I picked some (all) spots when I was younger I had some red veins too (ladies - v easy to get those removed!). I also now have grey hairs - where is the justice in that?!! Anyway, I am dying the grey, and for the skin I would recommend bare minerals make up. Once you get the hang of it (not hard), the coverage is great and v natural looking, and over time you do get less spots etc. It might seem expensive at first, but it lasts a long time and I think it works out really well for the price overall.

Only other point is that we scrutinise our skin: others don't. Very important to remember that what seems huge to us is probably not even registering with others. So look people in the eye, as the beautiful bride that you are.

I have problem skin too. Definitely go back to the doc if you're not happy (maybe see a different one if poss?) Am sure they will be able to prescribe you an antiseptic roll on or some sort of antibiotic? I would say the problem with a lot of products on the market all give lots of promises and built on hype, you can't beat the doc - they know their stuff!

I too am a very recent Liz Earle convert....after years of probably not looking after my skin properly (as I am blessed with good skin genes from maternal side so could get away with just using basic cheapo stuff!), I recently started getting really bad breakouts. A lot of people on here recommended Liz Earle so I thought I would give it a try and OMG after just a week, my skin feels amazing!

I never wear foundation anyway as find it too heavy on my skin but the other day my skin felt and looked so nice I even went out without my usual tinted moisturiser!

I know it is expensive but reckon the cleanser and toner will last at least a month and the cream probably two months as you only need to put a little bit on....I really couldn't rave about it more!!
