Sleep Habits

(Claire), 1 October, 2013 at 10:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 34

Do you have any? Snoring, sleep walking, talking etc?

Up until a few months ago I had none, but I've suddenly developed sleep talking much to H's amusement - How can it just start when it's never happened in the past?

I think you can develop sleeping habits , its to do with your sub concious, you may be stressed, or not able to turn your mind off?

Apparently I shot up in my sleep back when we lived with OH's parents and asked OH who our prime minister is before falling back to sleep after he answered me! I have no recollection of this at all but he reminds me of it frequently. I also apparently woke up and then woke him up pointing at his bedroom door asking why there was a man in there.... He said he ignored what I said and hid under the covers because I freaked him out!!!

We now have a sleep talk app on my phone to catch any sounds and we have heard a few strange things being said by me like 'why do you want to take away my coats buttons?'.... I'm a bit odd, evidently!

Yes I talk quite a lot. I used to sleep walk at my nan's house for some reason

As flow said I thought it could all be brought on by stress.

My Sil once sleep walked out of her hotel room, through reception and down to the jacuzzi! thankfully she had little pjs on!

When l was about 8 years old then l slept walked out of a motel room and into the car park, luckily my Dad heard me leave the room and went after me! I am terrible for sleep walking, sleep talking and being very restless. Luckily Mr Erin is a heavy sleeper. I sometimes wake myself up talking which is annoying! It does seem to get worse for me when l am feeling stressed, l also think it's a sign of an active mind.

I know when I went away with my Mum, sister and grandparents to Spain back when I was about 7 and my sister about 5 we got left alone in the hotel room when we went to sleep. My grandparents and Mum were on the balcony and the next thing I know my Mum is legging it out of the room and my grandparents were panicking because my sister had slept walk all the way down to the pool outdoors and was inches from falling in. My mum couldn't believe it and was so shaken up, I remember it really clearly.

I'm a terrible sleeper but I definitely get worse when I'm stressed out. I would sleep walk as a kid but luckily I haven't done it in years. I have crazy hallucinations and sleep paralysis when trying to get to sleep and often I'll waken in the middle of the night screaming and thrashing around.

H talks in his sleep sometimes. The other week he sat up, pulled up our duvet and said he was taking it to the charity shop. I nearly started crying saying I would be too cold if he did that. He argued with me for a while then fell asleep again.

I didn't believe boy when he said I snored so I downloaded a sleep recorder app that kicks in when it "hears" a noise. Turns out I snore and toss and turn quite a lot!

I wake up most nights feeling around the bed thinking my baby is in the bed and is going to fall off the edge. She has never, ever slept in our bed. It's becoming less frequent as she has got a bit older, but I used to drive H mad with it. I'd be patting up and down his body saying "Where is she?".

i used to talk in my sleep all the time and was a sleep walker when I was a kid.

Claire, you should download a sleep-talking app on your phone and play us the clips on here, would be funny Smiley smile

I only snore when I have a blocked nose, according to H. He is a terrible snorer though, he constantly wakes me up.

I am a super light sleeper since I had my boys, the slightest sound wakes me up, makes for some very disturbed nights.

My eldest son talks in his sleep. I have conversations with him, and record them, as he never believes me.

I've been a sleep talker/mumbler since I was 9 but in the last few weeks OH has enlightened me with the fact that I now also snore... I also wake up at 5am every morning without failure to use the toilet ?

I don't have any although have had my talking moments in the past.
OH though is a right annoying ratbag ? He snores, talks, makes weird noises, rolls about constantly and occasionally shouts. I've been close to punching him on the head before haha.

I remember he was having a dream that I was being beat up by a gang and I was woken at 4am with him roaring out my name ? Utter turnip!

Rituals - I always have to be on the right side of the bed, furthest from the door and facing to the right. Door has to be shut for me too, and I can't lie facing OH going to sleep it feels weird so always have to be facing away from him ?

Aww Jojo - teddy and a hot water bottle haha ❤️

Me too Jo! I've had him since I was 1, full of holes and everything. He's supposed to be a beaver but he stopped looking like one a long time ago, after a dog got him Smiley sad I thought H would be a bit weird about it but he's find (or didn't have a choice!!)

I mumble a lot, I've had a cold for months and I snore a bit when I do. I woke H up on Monday telling him there was a huge spider. We're still sleeping on the living room floor so he thought I'd seen it on the floor. The first thing I actually remember was thinking I'd seen it under some cups at work. I don't remember waking him up. He wasn't very happy!

i like to lie on my side away from H and when my hips are sore, on my front. We usually lie quite close but facing away from each other.

H has full blown conversations in his sleep. Freaks me out!

    Aww Jo.

Ive taken mine everywhere for good luck (including New York as I was terrified of the flight!) his ears are worn, his nose is off, his eyes are wrecked, he's worn down all his fur and he has a HUGE hole in his side that needs fixed soon. He's a bit of a sight. He's from Canada from my uncle, I have another one incase I lost him and he's never been touched and looks totally different!! I'm going to give him to my child.

I'm a terrible snorer ever since I had tonsil problems. I also talk in my sleep a lot, may need to try the app, but it would prob just get the snoring!

A few years ago when I was going through bad times with my old work I got woken up in the night by my flatmate throwing open my bedroom door in full fight mode! I obviously got a huge fright and it woke me up, bit he'd actually been woken up by me full on screaming like he says he's never heard anyone scream before and thought I was being attacked, he said as he passed the front door as he was running to my room he expected there to be signs of a break in. Bless him for coming to help me but it was the stress bringing on night terrors! During that time I also used to wake myself up because I had wet ears- couldn't understand why my ears were water logged, then realised I'd been crying in my sleep when lying on my back! Bad times....

I usually wake up convinced there is a spider in the room and go mental until reality kicks in. Sometimes it is people in the room, once I was convinced there was a man at the door of my room and was going to throw my phone at him and was actually contemplating ringing H.

I will always react to a possible spider, despite knowing that I am most likely dreaming because the day I dont will be the day there really is one!!!

My brother liked the idea of that app until someone said to him, imagine if you heard stuff on there, like someone else or your bedroom door opening in the night. He freaked himself out so much he couldn't bring himself to use it!

I have talked in my sleep quite a few times. It's usually complete drivel though and I have no recollection of what I've said. I quite often jump as I'm falling asleep which is really annoying as it wakes me up. I think that that happens when I'm really tired. I've also woken myself up laughing a few times.

My Mum was a big sleepwalker when I was younger and more than a few times I woke up with her in my bedroom. I used to sleep with my door shut and she would come in the room and shut the door behind her. It freaked me out no end! The worst time she slepwalked she unlocked the front door, went out into the steet and then locked the door behind her. She then posted the key through the letterbox as she thought that we would need it. She must have been terrified when we realised she was locked oout in the street with her nightie on!!

    Yep im awful.

Talk (frequently gibberish though correct words incorrect sentence structure), sit up, point, laugh, freak out, etc etc.

    My favourites stories are:

    1. I was asleep and my oh was in bed watching american dad and playing champ manager on his laptop. During american dad one of the musical numbers came on and I thrust my fist in the air, sang along word perfect to the entire song then put my hand back down. I have no recollection of this.

    2. I was dreaming one night that I was in a swimming pool and I was being attacked by someone and they were going to try and drown me. I pulled back my leg under water to kick the guy in the legs to stop him getting me. I woke myself with a start the minute my foot contacted the skin of my ohs knee. I had full on pulled my leg back and kicked him in the back of his knee.... the same knee he is awaiting surgery to reconstruct his ACL eep.

    3. Again I was in bed sleeping and oh was lying next to me playing champ. Apparently I rolled up raised myself up onto my elbow, pointed and laughed at him so evilly and maniacally that to this day he constantly tells this story and says that at that moment he felt like I was laughing like he was a piece of s*** and he felt 2cm tall. Again I just rolled back over as if nothing had happened.

Wrt OP ive been like this for as long as I can remember so not sure if it just randomly starts. Althougg id agree that it has probably been triggered by stress. I sleepwalk but only when really really stressed so Id reckon its down to that.
