Slow Hitched

Boxof BaldKittens, 26 August, 2009 at 09:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Amazing that Hitched is even slower than before. It took me 10 mins to get on the site and then another 5 to log in. Sometimes wonder if its worth the bother when other sites are faster; I wonder if thats why it seems so quiet these days? ( I know Hitched has its up and down periods but not this quiet)

Bring back ol'yella pages- so much quicker, who gives a fozz about blogs and photo albums anyhoo!

Well said! It's so slow, I've given up trying to log in and post a few times recently, very frustrating.

I'm about ready to give up to be honest. I normally only Hitch at work so if it's going slowly I can't/won't. Even at home I've left it loading a page and then gone off to do something else because I was wasting my life away waiting.

I love this place but this is silly.

Sorry Darren, I know how hard you work for this site, and how much it means to so many people, but this is getting ridiculous - like trying to acces the net back in the 90s.

It seems to take forever to process every single command. Sorry Darren, but it's sooooooo frustrating! (I thought it was just my system being slow, at least I'm not alone.)

I'm with P&AP too. It's just getting ridiculous. I couldn't log onto a single thread last night and this morning it's taken me 10minutes to get on to this one!

Me too - I've recently rejoined Hitched, I used to love the banter etc but seems a lot less of it and was wondering if perhaps it was just less popular now or everyone was getting the slowness that I'm experiencing (I don't always have the best of connections!)

Fingers crossed the speed will return :o)

It's been quite quick for me this morning compared to the last few weeks.

not sure how long that'll last though.

I can remember years ago when the topics would come in thick and fast and constantly change...

This morning has been quicker for me too although BT has just broke when I tried to post a reply and I can't get it back so not sure what's going on.

It's painfully slow for me and every time I post I get an error message, although the post does still appear despite the error. It's so frustrating. The forums are going to die a death if it's not sorted soon.

Same here. I'm newly rejoined but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it. I've always loved this forum but it's just too slow now. It takes ages and becomes a real effort to post or reply to anyone.

Darren's worked so hard on this site over the years but surely the forums must be a big pull in terms of business and sponsorship.

Someone (sorry, can't get back to find out who) on the sticky thread has pointed out a response from Darren on the talk to us forum (or whatever its called).

The issues have got worse because they are making major updates over the next few days - hopefully things will improve then....

But will there be anyone left to notice? I'm serious!

As someone whose day job involves running a complex multimedia website (with hundreds of hours of video on top of the other concerns), I have every sympathy when things go wrong - but I was deeply unimpressed to see a sticky marked 'Please Read - Very Important' and then, after several failed attempts at accessing it, discovering that it was some irrelevant wibble about swearing when that is absolutely not the thing that most forum regulars are most concerned about right now.

Quite aside from being toe-curlingly patronising, it's truly dreadful PR, because it creates the impression that Darren couldn't care less about borderline-unusable access times - and I don't for one second believe this is the case.

So can I respectfully suggest that the most sensible course of action right now would be to delete that thread, post another sticky giving a full and upfront explanation of what's causing the delays and a realistic date by which they might be dealt with? And then, when the fundamentals have been sorted out and things are back to normal, cosmetic issues like swearing can be dealt with.

    my new hero!

I'm wondering if it's time for a spot of non-industrial action (or inaction) perhaps if we all en-mass stayed away for a day then the click-rate would again become important enough to merit some attention
